In a rather amusing turn of events, Richard Teng, the newly minted chief executive officer (CEO) of the crypto behemoth Binance, has taken to his X account to deliver a rather alarming missive. One might say he has inherited quite the circus from his predecessor, Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who gracefully exited stage left in late 2023.
With a flourish befitting a man of his stature, Teng has cautioned the ever-growing Binance community and all crypto aficionados worldwide about a rather insidious threat lurking in the shadows. Spoiler alert: itās not just the price of Bitcoin!
“Beware the Impostors!”
Our dear Binance overlord has issued a clarion call, warning that a veritable plague of counterfeit Binance apps is on the rise. These nefarious creations are not merely a nuisance; they are designed to pilfer your sensitive data and digital treasures. āFake Binance apps are on the rise, designed to steal your sensitive data and digital assets,ā he proclaimed, as if announcing the latest fashion trend.
In a moment of rare clarity, Teng advised users to download only the official version of the Binance app, and to do so exclusively from sources that one can trustābecause, letās face it, downloading from a random website is so last season. He even provided a link for the official Binance app, as if we were all too daft to find it ourselves.

Some users, in a fit of gratitude, took to the comments to thank Teng for his timely alert, as if he had just saved them from a burning building.
How to Guard Your Crypto Fortress
Earlier this week, in a display of benevolence, Richard Teng shared some sage advice on how users might protect their precious phones, which house their crypto wallets, in the unfortunate event that they go missing. He graciously linked to an article penned by the Binance team, detailing how to safeguard oneās data and crypto in the event of a theft. Because, of course, losing your phone is the new black.
Teng solemnly warned that the loss of a phone containing crypto could lead to a veritable Pandora’s box of troubles, exposing sensitive data, compromising various accounts, and, heaven forbid, incurring financial losses. The horror!
Among the pearls of wisdom shared by our illustrious CEO were the crucial steps of securing your phone with biometrics, enabling remote data wipe capabilities, and keeping a backup of your 2FA codesābecause who doesnāt love a good backup plan?
The article, which Teng so kindly shared, recommends a plethora of proactive measures to secure your phone, including regular data backups, device encryption, and, of course, locking down your screenābecause we all know how tempting it is to leave our phones unlocked in public.
Lastly, it is of utmost importance to contact your mobile operator to disable the SIM card in the lost device. This step may prove invaluable in thwarting the dastardly plans of criminals eager to make off with your crypto fortune.
