Today, May 31, 2025, the cryptocurrency segment is under siege. In a shocking twist, the aggregated market capitalization has vanished like my will to exercise, erasing a staggering $147 billion in just 24 hours. Meme coins are feeling the heat the most. Pepe (PEPE), the largest frog coin (yes, you read that right), is down by 12.1% today, according to CoinGecko. 🐸💸
PEPE’s price has plummeted to a multi-week low of $0.0000113. Its market cap has taken a nosedive below $4.7 billion. To put it in perspective, PEPE is now down by a whopping 60% compared to its all-time high from December 6, 2024. Ouch! 😬
Meanwhile, SPX6900 (SPX), the crown jewel of Murad Mahmudov’s meme coin collection, is down by 13%. The SPX price has dipped to $0.9595, hitting a local low that even my cat wouldn’t want to visit.
And then there’s Bonk (BONK), which has plummeted to $0.00001587, losing 10.3% overnight. With trading volume shrinking faster than my patience during a long meeting, Bonk’s capitalization has dropped to $1.29 billion. Talk about a rough night! 😱
The big players, Dogecoin (DOGE) and Shiba Inu (SHIB), are also feeling the pinch. Dogecoin’s price has plunged to $0.189, losing 7.8% overnight, while Shiba Inu has seen its price drop to $0.00001254. It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck, but with more dogs and less actual wreckage.

The net capitalization of the meme coin segment is down by 12%. Within this vertical, the worst-performing classes are frog-themed meme coins (16.1% lost in 24 hours), Murad Mahmudov’s meme coins (16% lost), and Solana-based meme cryptos (13.8%).
In a shocking turn of events, some top-league meme coins have already lost their spots in the top 100. Dogwifhat (WIF), a pioneering stablecoin on Solana (SOL), has plunged by 18.6%. From the lofty heights of 10-digit waters, WIF’s capitalization has dropped to a mere $818 million in just 24 hours. It’s like watching a celebrity fall from grace, but with fewer paparazzi.
Floki (FLOKI), another community favorite, hit $0.00008003 after losing 13.5% in 24 hours. And Based Brett (BRETT) has plummeted to $0.0501 with a 14.5% loss overnight. If only these coins could take a lesson from my grandmother on how to hold onto their value! 😂
