Crypto’s Mayor Gambles Big

Like a shipwrecked sailor clinging to a piece of driftwood, New York mayor Eric Adams is grasping at the crypto industry as his lifeline in the upcoming mayoral race 🌪️. With a war chest of $5 to $10 million from crypto donors, Adams is casting himself as the industry’s champion in America’s financial capital 💸.

This strategy, reminiscent of Donald Trump’s campaign, may prove to be a double-edged sword ⚔️. While it could bring in much-needed funds, it also risks alienating Democratic voters who are increasingly wary of crypto’s influence 🤔.

Meanwhile, Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani is sailing ahead with a committed following, his viral popularity leaving Adams in the dust 🚀. But will Zohran’s lack of a clear stance on crypto prove to be his Achilles’ heel? 🤷‍♂️

The Crypto Conundrum

New York City, a global finance hub, is a key battleground for crypto regulations 🗽️. Adams, a self-proclaimed crypto supporter, has tried to reinvigorate the industry’s position in the city, but his efforts have been met with resistance 🚫.

Undeterred, Adams is leaning on his crypto connections to fuel his bid against Zohran 🚀. At the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Adams and his associates made some revealing comments, which were later scrubbed from the official broadcast 🤐.

“When asked: What is [Adams] going to do for crypto? It’s: What is he not going to do for crypto. You ask him and he says yes. Ok? Literally. We have a lot of catching up to do, [but] with the crypto community’s support, and what I’m being told soft commitment-wise, we’ll be there in no time. In the next couple weeks, I figure we’ll be at $5 million, $10 million,” claimed Eric Lander, President of a pro-Adams Super PAC 🤑.

Zohran, on the other hand, has remained mum on crypto, leaving many wondering if he’ll be hostile or ambivalent to the industry 🤔. But with polling showing him ahead by a wide margin, the crypto industry’s support may not be enough to blunt his momentum 🚀.

As the election heats up, the crypto conversation will likely emerge from all candidates 🔥. Will Adams’ crypto gamble pay off, or will it backfire? 🤯 Can Zohran maintain his lead without taking a clear stance on crypto? 🤔 The answers will have far-reaching implications for New York’s crypto policy and beyond 🌐.

When crypto companies collapse, it isn’t the rich who suffer, it’s small investors who disproportionately come from low-income and communities of color.
@NewYorkStateAG has a bill to address this and protect New York investors.

Let’s do it! 💪
