The anime series Daemons of the Shadow Realm is quickly becoming a hit this Spring 2026. Based on a manga by Hiromu Arakawa—the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist—the show has revitalized its characters and introduced the story to a new audience. The series follows siblings Yuru and Asa, and has been full of intriguing puzzles so far. Yuru finds himself in a strange, modern world, while Asa keeps viewers guessing with her secrets. With a total of 24 episodes, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is taking its time revealing everything.
Things really heated up in Episode 6! Assassins managed to find the Kagemori Clan’s hideout, going after the twins. Yuru showed he wasn’t going down without a fight, skillfully using his bow and arrow. And Asa? She’s incredibly powerful – she broke through a dangerous barrier using her abilities and even managed to save her brother. Their father, before he disappeared, said the twins are the key to controlling Break and Seal, but we haven’t seen Yuru’s full power yet, so who knows what will happen when it awakens. Thankfully, everything worked out okay… though we got a huge shock when Asa revealed why she wears an eyepatch: she actually died once before, killed by an assassin from Higashi Village.

Asa Has Died Before, and the Future Is More Unknown Than Ever
Following the action-packed sixth episode, the next installment of Daemons of the Shadow Realm promises to reveal more about the story and show flashbacks of the twins’ village. Fans are waiting to see if Yuru and Asa will discover any leads about their parents, but are also enjoying their growing bond – especially Asa’s sweet attempts to get a hug from her reserved brother, which is completely understandable after everything their village has been through. Episode 7, titled “Asa and Break,” will be available to stream in Japanese with English subtitles on May 16th at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EST.

The next English-dubbed episode of Daemons of the Shadow Realm will now be released on May 16th. After that, new episodes will come out every week as usual. This delay is due to issues in production.

It currently has impressive scores of 8.01 on MAL and 8.4 on IMDb, with the first episode receiving the highest ratings. Yuru Doesn’t Need to Be Edward Elric to Win Over Fans
Yuru is a compelling main character – he’s driven, confident, and focused on reaching his goals, much like Edward Elric from another popular series by the same creator. Before the anime Daemons of the Shadow Realm began, many fans worried it would simply try to copy the success of Fullmetal Alchemist. However, the series has proven it’s unique and stands on its own. While it may not reach the same level of fame, it’s a memorable show with a lot of potential, especially as the story explores the connection between the twin characters and clarifies who they’re fighting against. Arakawa is a skilled storyteller, and Daemons is a strong contender, even when compared to one of the best anime ever made.
This spring season, both new series like Daemons and Witch Hat Atelier are gaining popularity, and several returning favorites are also performing very well. Re: ZERO Season 4, Classroom of the Elite Season 4, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4, and Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 are all proving to be hits, with Re: ZERO currently scoring an impressive 8.91 on MAL. It remains to be seen if Daemons of the Shadow Realm can reach a 9.0, but it still has the opportunity to do so.
