James Van Der Beek, known for his roles in Varsity Blues and Dawson’s Creek, passed away this morning, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed. He was 48 years old.

I was so saddened to hear about James Van Der Beek’s passing. His wife, Kimberley, shared the news on Instagram, and her words really struck me. She said he faced his final days with incredible courage, faith, and grace, which is just beautiful. She also asked for privacy for their family as they grieve, and of course, we should all respect that.

Soon after, he participated in a two-hour special of “The Real Full Monty” to encourage people to get tested for and learn more about prostate, testicular, and colorectal cancers.
