DayZ Developer Responds To Frostline DLC Review Bombing Over Price

As a long-time fan of DayZ, I’ve witnessed the evolution of this survival game from its humble beginnings to the colossal phenomenon it is today. I’ve spent countless hours exploring Chernarus, battling zombies, and engaging in tense human encounters. So when the Frostline DLC was released, I was eager to explore a new map and immerse myself in a fresh DayZ experience.

Over the past few years, review bombing has gained popularity as a method used by gamers who believe they’ve been unfairly treated. This was evident when the release of the Frostline DLC for DayZ in October sparked discontent among its fans.

Over the past month, I’ve noticed that the Steam community has been quite displeased with the new DLC, giving it a 77% thumbs-down. Most of the complaints seem to revolve around its hefty price tag of $26.99 and the perception that the content isn’t worth the money spent.

This player said that DayZ itself is excellent value for the cost, but the price for just a map isn’t worth it, especially considering there are superior modded maps available for free elsewhere.

Instead of saying it directly, let me put it like this: ‘I’m disappointed that for the cost, I feel like I’ve been given an old map from Arma 3 with less content, a questionable balance, and elements that seem to have been taken straight from someone else’s work without proper credit.’

In response to the criticism on social networking sites, Marek Spanel, leader of Bohemia Interactive’s development team, clarified that the DLC (Downloadable Content) is not compulsory for players to purchase.

Spanel inquired, “Were you aware that out of the 8 million Steam users with available data, an average of 188 hours were spent playing DayZ by each individual, and on average, they spent approximately 30 US dollars?

In essence, we’ve earned less than 10 cents per hour of live online gaming that we host and have been refining for over a decade. Simultaneously, Dayz Frostline is being criticized on the same platform for being too expensive at $26.99, labeled as ‘just a map’. Some users are even demanding more content for less money.

In their latest social media update, the game’s official account mentioned they’re carefully considering the feedback given and strive to utilize it effectively.

“The team behind DayZ is constantly working to add more exciting features with each update. They take your feedback seriously and always strive to make improvements. And let’s not forget about our fantastic modding community, who offer a wealth of free maps that can keep you occupied if you’re not ready for the cold of Sakhalin just yet!
