Summary
- The Skull Merchant’s upcoming rework in Dead by Daylight focuses on giving the Killer more active abilities.
- Her skills will also be made easier to understand for all players.
- It’s unclear when these changes will go into effect.
In “Dead by Daylight,” they’re planning significant modifications for The Skull Merchant with the aim of boosting her appeal among players who use Killers. These updates to “Dead by Daylight” will give The Skull Merchant more active abilities instead of relying heavily on passive ones, particularly focusing on changes in her drones.
Initially debuting in March 2023 as the highlighted Killer of Chapter 27, “Dead by Daylight”‘s The Skull Merchant is categorized as one of the trickier Killers to handle. She excels more through strategic planning and tactical precision rather than brute strength. Her drones offer both surveillance and long-range offensive options, and she tends to perform best when keeping numerous players injured and hanging on hooks.
Despite numerous adjustments made to the Skull Merchant in Dead by Daylight during her first year, she hasn’t gained widespread popularity like several other Killers. This is largely because managing her skills can be quite intricate. However, a fresh design preview from Behaviour Interactive indicates that she will undergo another rework to make gameplay more enjoyable for both players controlling her and those trying to evade her. The exact timeline for these changes is unclear, but they aim to simplify her abilities for all players and transition her playstyle from passive to active hunting of Survivors.
Dead by Daylight Plans Big Changes to The Skull Merchant

The primary modifications in the abilities of killers in “Dead by Daylight” mainly revolve around the drones used by The Skull Merchant. These drones will continue to gather intel, but now, survivors will be able to identify the directions where they’re scanning, not the full range of the scan motion. This makes it harder for survivors to stay hidden and avoid detection. Furthermore, The Skull Merchant can now commandeer these drones to attack players directly. When a drone collides with a survivor, it sacrifices one survivor and the merchant loses one health state. While a drone is actively controlled in this manner, The Skull Merchant becomes invisible, forcing survivors to focus on the attacking drone. Each drone operates on a limited power supply. Additionally, The Skull Merchant will gain a new, as-yet-unnamed ability that, when activated, reveals the location of any survivor who is running, though survivors are notified when this ability is active.
In order to bolster their safety, survivors in “Dead by Daylight” can still jam drones, but this action will now carry more danger than before. If successful, the hacking survivor will be able to spot the Skull Merchant’s presence, offering crucial insights into the Killer’s actions. However, a failed attempt will not only prevent another hack for a brief period but also reveal the survivor’s location to The Skull Merchant via the Killer Instinct mechanism.
