Muzan is a truly terrifying villain in the anime Demon Slayer. He’s the one who created the demons, and he’s responsible for a terrible tragedy in the main character Tanjiro’s life: the murder of his family. Tanjiro’s sister, Nezuko, was the only survivor, but Muzan turned her into a demon.
Muzan was a villain who committed terrible acts for a long time, and for a long time, no one seemed able to challenge him. But that doesn’t mean he’s unbeatable. This list highlights anime characters powerful enough to not just defeat him, but completely destroy him.
Ryomen Sukuna
- Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
Muzan is incredibly difficult to kill with a simple attack because he has multiple brains and hearts, allowing him to recover from almost any injury. Sukuna, however, has abilities that could potentially overcome this regeneration and inflict lasting damage. But even surviving a powerful attack isn’t enough – what about facing an enemy that constantly adapts and never lets up?
Muzan typically defeats powerful enemies because he can easily predict their attacks. However, Sukuna is different. If Sukuna can draw Muzan into his Malevolent Shrine—a domain expansion without barriers—Muzan wouldn’t stand a chance.
Ainz Ooal Gown

Ainz Ooal Gown is from the fantasy world of Overlord, where dying isn’t always permanent. When someone can no longer fight, or their body reaches its limit, they’re considered dead – it’s more about losing status than actual death. Ainz is a supremely powerful ruler in his world, similar to Muzan in his own. But if they were to ever fight, Muzan wouldn’t stand a chance against Ainz, even though this is a very unlikely matchup.

To avoid defeat, Muzan would essentially need to stay hidden until Ainz loses interest in pursuing him. If Muzan were to emerge, Ainz could potentially use spells that instantly defeat him.
Yhwach
- Anime: Bleach
Muzan’s unique biology grants him near-immortality within his own world, but in the universe of Bleach, Yhwach holds the power to control his fate. Yhwach can see the future and change events to suit his wishes. Unlike Muzan, who thrives on fear and destruction, Yhwach prefers order. Using his ability, the Almighty, Yhwach could prevent Muzan from ever entering his world, or even if Muzan arrives, he could simply alter the future to erase him.
If Muzan loses his ability to heal quickly, he’s essentially powerless, and Yhwach definitely appears to be the type of enemy who would exploit that weakness.
Anti-Spiral

The Anti-Spiral from Gurren Lagann is a powerful, multidimensional being capable of instantly banishing someone like Muzan Kibutsuji into the vastness of space. It originated from an alien race that combined their minds into a single, immense consciousness – similar to the hive mind seen in Stranger Things. However, the Anti-Spiral isn’t driven by fear, but by a desperate will to survive, representing the collective intelligence of beings who sacrificed their individuality for the sake of preservation.
Muzan can heal from any injury as long as some of his tissue remains, but Anti-Spiral operates on a completely different level. It can create and destroy entire universes. Anti-Spiral can also trap opponents within inescapable, fabricated realities. Because of these abilities, Anti-Spiral has everything needed to defeat a powerful enemy like Muzan.
Demon King
- Anime: Seven Deadly Sins
The Demon King, a powerful leader from Seven Deadly Sins, shares some surface-level similarities with Muzan from Demon Slayer. Both created incredibly powerful demons in their respective worlds. However, they differ significantly in other ways. Unlike Muzan, who isn’t a strong fighter himself, the Demon King is more capable in battle, though not as powerful as characters like Sukuna. What truly sets him apart is his unique ability to deflect or diminish incoming attacks, giving him control over the flow of combat.

Demon King’s most powerful ability is Hellblaze, a devastating fire attack. It not only burns opponents, but also prevents them from healing, ultimately reducing them to ash. Because of this, Muzan stands no chance against him.
Naraku
- Anime: Inuyasha
Honestly, Naraku is just the most cunning villain in anime, at least for me. What’s really interesting is that he wasn’t born a demon – he started as a human consumed by jealousy, and actively chose to gain power by fusing with demons. It’s a bit like Muzan in how he focuses on survival, but Naraku is on another level. Muzan just wants to keep surviving, while Naraku carefully analyzes every situation before making a move. That calculated approach is what really sets him apart, and honestly, makes him a more compelling villain in my opinion.
If Muzan and Naraku ever fought, Muzan would almost certainly win. He can carefully study his opponent while his clones handle the actual fighting. Against someone like Naraku, Muzan could win the fight before it even really begins.
Satan
- Anime: The Blue Exorcist
Satan, as the ruler of all demons, possesses immense demonic power that surpasses any living creature, even Muzan. While Muzan is incredibly strong, he’s unlikely to withstand Satan’s abilities, especially the blue flames which can harm both the body and the soul. Even if Muzan were to destroy Satan’s current form, it wouldn’t matter, because Satan isn’t limited to just one body.
Muzan can only survive as long as his cells hold together, and Satan focuses on completely obliterating opponents by attacking their very core. Therefore, Muzan has absolutely no way to rebuild himself or get away from the fight.
Akira Fudo
- Anime: Devilman Crybaby
Unlike the other characters on this list who are villains, Akira Fudo is a powerful anime hero dedicated to eliminating any threat to humanity. If Muzan were to appear in the world of Devilman Crybaby, Akira would undoubtedly notice him. Akira would then swiftly defeat Muzan with a relentless barrage of attacks, overpowering him completely.
Akira is different from most anime heroes; he doesn’t hold back until a dramatic climax. He immediately fights at full strength. While Muzan has easily defeated his past opponents, a fight against Akira Fudo would be a different story. Akira doesn’t prolong battles. If Muzan were to fight him, he’d be quickly overwhelmed by a relentless barrage of attacks. Any damage Muzan sustains would be quickly followed by more, preventing him from recovering and ultimately leading to his defeat.
Meruem
- Anime: Hunter x Hunter
Meruem is a more compelling villain than Muzan, and also significantly more powerful. Muzan is a fairly standard, purely evil character, but Meruem is complex and thought-provoking. In terms of strength, Meruem completely outclasses Muzan.
Meruem quickly overwhelmed humanity, bringing them to the brink of defeat in under a year. In contrast, Muzan, despite having powers for centuries, remained hidden and was limited to destroying only small areas. It took a desperate, self-sacrificing attack from a strong fighter like Netero to defeat Meruem. Furthermore, Meruem ultimately began to abandon his villainous nature, and it’s frightening to think what he might have done if he hadn’t changed.
Kaido
If you’ve seen One Piece, it’s clear that Kaido could defeat Muzan Kibutsuji even when not at his best. Muzan is a villain who struggles to even destroy a city, while Kaido can transform into a colossal dragon that dominates the entire sky. Remember, it took Luffy multiple tries and his powerful Gear 5 transformation just to beat Kaido.
Muzan is powerful within the Demon Slayer universe, but he wouldn’t stand a chance in the world of One Piece. He’d be easily defeated by even relatively weaker opponents like Doflamingo, let alone someone as strong as Kaido.
