The original Deus Ex, the game that started a hugely popular series, is being remastered and will be released on February 5th. Created by the experienced game designer Warren Spector – famous for titles like the Ultima series, System Shock, and Thief: Deadly Shadows – the first Deus Ex was developed by Ion Storm, a studio created by John Romero and Tom Hall, which is no longer around. Given the talent behind it, it’s no surprise that Deus Ex was a critical and commercial success when it came out in 2000, earning numerous awards.

The game really stood out thanks to its futuristic, sci-fi world, filled with gritty cities and people enhanced with cybernetics. It also blended role-playing game elements with the action of a first-person shooter, and included stealth gameplay – a unique combination at the time. Add in a great soundtrack, characters you cared about, and a captivating story, and it’s no surprise the game launched a successful franchise with a dedicated fanbase that continues to this day.
Deus Ex Remastered Is Coming to PS5
The future of the *Deus Ex* series has been questionable lately, especially after its developer, Eidos-Montreal, changed ownership in 2022. But fans have reason to be optimistic: Aspyr announced on September 24, 2025, that it’s working on a modernized and remastered version of the very first *Deus Ex* game. This version will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, planned for release on February 5, 2026.
Although some fans are worried that Eidos isn’t directly leading the remake, Aspyr has a strong track record of successfully remastering and porting popular games. They’ve recently released well-received versions of classics like *Tomb Raider 1-3 & 1-4 Remastered*, *Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic* for Nintendo Switch, and *Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered*. Aspyr also prioritizes working *with* the original game creators, and they’ll continue this approach with the *Deus Ex* remaster. They’re partnering with Eidos-Montreal to ensure the remake stays true to the original game while also updating it with modern features that fans have been wanting.

The classic sci-fi game *Deus Ex* is getting a visual update! This remaster will keep the core of the original game intact, but improve the graphics with new lighting, shadows, textures, and effects. Character models are being completely rebuilt, and the game will feature synced dialogue and more realistic physics. Because the original was designed for PC, the controls are being adjusted for smoother gameplay on a PlayStation 5 controller. Fans won’t have to wait long – they’ll be able to step back into the role of JC Denton in a dark future version of 2052 within the next year.
