Devil May Cry 5: Best Weapons, Ranked

The allure of the Devil May Cry series has always been its impressive array of formidable weapons, allowing players to wreak havoc on the minions of Hell. Being a hack-and-slash game, it stands out for the sheer badassness of its weapons and characters.

In Devil May Cry 5, it’s likely that you’ll find an extensive arsenal of weapons due to the fact that you can control four distinct characters: Dante, Nero, V, and Vergil. Each character offers a unique gameplay style and a variety of combo options.

For each weapon, there’s a distinct set of moves that smoothly transition into one another based on the character you’re playing. We’ll be evaluating every weapon in the game, taking into account how enjoyable it is to execute impressive maneuvers against your opponents. Mastering these weapons will help you grasp the sophisticated combat and movement systems of this game, enabling you to overcome its toughest obstacles.

22. V’s Cane

Finish Them

In the game DMC 5, V stands out as a fresh character, distinct in his talents compared to the other playable characters in the Devil May Cry series.

Due to V’s affliction, he’s unable to launch potent assaults using Devil Arms or firearms. Instead, he employs his familiars to weaken his adversaries first, followed by a decisive strike with his cane against the weakened foes since they cannot perish from their attacks.

he can throw the cane at enemies and teleport to their location, or he can leap into the air and call down a barrage of canes to eliminate several opponents simultaneously.

21. Coyote-A

The Ol’ Reliable

Besides Ebony and Ivory, the shotgun is one of Dante’s most recognizable firearms, initially appearing in the original Devil May Cry. Known also as the Coyote-A, this weapon boasts sufficient force to reduce demons into dust.

The compact Coyote-A delivers a substantial impact in tight spaces due to its double-barrel design, yet it struggles and fires slowly when used beyond short distances.

In a flashy manner, Dante wields his weapon similar to a nunchaku, making him appear more chic and assertive. This gun serves as a defense mechanism when opponents encroach too closely, but it lacks significant coolness other than the charm of a traditional double-barreled shotgun’s design.

20. Dr. Faust

Dance Dance Revolution

In Devil May Cry 5, Dr. Faust is a fresh addition to the arsenal, crafted by the skilled blacksmith, Nico. Originating from the spirit of a Faust demon seen in Devil May Cry 4, this weapon transforms into a stylish cowboy hat and a sinister red scarf that drapes around Dante’s neck.

In this game, the weapon shoots projectiles that resemble solidified drops of demon essence, which are obtained by collecting Red Orbs. These Orbs serve as the in-game currency, allowing you to enhance both your abilities and weaponry as you progress.

Or, more concisely: This weapon fires projectiles akin to crystallized demon blood, using Red Orbs as ammo. The Red Orbs function as the game’s currency for upgrading skills and weapons.

Although Dr. Faust entertained us with an amusing dance move reminiscent of Michael Jackson, it’s not advisable to rely on this maneuver when executing combos in combat.

Dr. Faust functions as a high-stakes weapon, offering greater rewards in the form of Red Orbs when you successfully place a hat on an opponent. However, this strategy also carries a risk, since taking damage could result in losing some of your Red Orbs.

19. Kalina Ann & Kalina Ann II

Dodge This!

Kalina Ann serves as Lady’s signature weapon, which is exceptionally large and boasts a rocket launcher that matches its impressive destructive power with a serrated bayonet equally menacing. Later on, Dante obtains the Kalina Ann II, a replica crafted by Nico of the original weapon.

On its own, the Kalina Ann functions as a launcher for explosive charges, which can also be charged. Alternatively, it’s capable of releasing a barrage of rockets that link up to perform consecutive attacks.

As a gamer, when I’ve got my Kalina Ann II rocket launchers in both hands, Dante unleashes twice the firepower for an absolute mayhem! Not just that, but these bad boys can link up and shoot out powerful laser blasts when they dock together.

On their own, the Kalina Ann rocket launchers pack a punch, but due to their sluggish speed, it becomes challenging to pinpoint targets precisely and fluidly transition into other weapons for continuous combos.

18. Nightmare

Imma Firin’ Mah Lazar!

Nightmare serves as V’s most powerful weapon. This colossal, lumbering creature is formed from inky-black sludge. When V activates his Devil Trigger, he can summon Nightmare to charge into battle like a hurtling meteor.

This creature’s assaults may be gradual, but they pack a heavy punch. Not only does it have the ability to swipe its limbs with force akin to hammers, but it’s also capable of unleashing a potent laser blast that can vaporize any unfortunate demons within its firing line.

Unlike Nightmare compared to other familiars, it doesn’t possess a health bar; rather, it persists in combat relying on V’s Devil Trigger energy level. Additionally, it can be mounted, functioning as an armored vehicle, making it a formidable ally during battles.

17. Shadow

If Dangerous, Why Friend Shaped?

Shadow, being V’s agile cat companion, functions as a tactical close-combat tool with its sharp spikes and swift claw strikes. Additionally, it assists V in evading attacks and makes speedy escapes beyond the battlefield when needed.

Among V’s companions, Shadow is the one capable of inflicting the greatest amount of damage due to its consistent ability to initiate combo sequences.

Yet, remember that Shadow may be susceptible to harm. If you’re not cautious when summoning it, you could potentially knock it out of combat for a brief period.

16. Griffon

Little Chicken

Similar to Shadow, Griffon serves as one of V’s primary companions, and in essence, functions as his weapon due to its capacity to launch electric and lightning assaults.

Although Griffon’s standard attacks don’t deal much damage, he remains a dependable companion due to his skill in assisting V with double jumps and enhancing his agility.

In the absence of Shadow and Nightmare, character V can dependably employ Griffon to gradually weaken opponents, particularly during Mission 14.

If you play DMC5 and reach this mission, always pick Griffon first.

15. Cavaliere

Demonic Horsepower

Rebuilt from half of a motorcycle, pieces of Cavaliere Angelo’s armor, and Trish’s electrical abilities, the Cavaliere is an extraordinary motorbike featuring wheels sharp enough to cut through steel, which can also transform into twin buzzsaws. It stands out as the epitome of weapons in the Devil May Cry series, surpassing all other video game vehicles.

As a gamer, I can effortlessly transition between riding my badass Cavalier’s motorcycle and unleashing powerful chainsaw attacks on foes. The thrilling core gameplay revolves around the “Gear Wheel” skill, which activates during attack sequences, causing an electrifying energy aura to pulse around my weapon.

As a gamer, I find this tool to be particularly effective when it comes to dealing with clusters of adversaries. It doesn’t just stun them in a satisfying chain, but also provides me with super armor. This extra feature boosts my damage resistance, making it harder for enemies to disrupt my attack sequences by knocking me out of my combat animations.

The DLC variant of the weapon, known as Cavaliere R, brings on a red hue to the weapon and introduces an additional attack feature.

As a gamer, I’ve found that the Cavaliere shares similar challenges with the Kalina Ann rocket launchers. The attacks come at a snail’s pace, making for some tense moments. Plus, getting a handle on the intricate Gear Wheel mechanic is no walk in the park; it takes time and practice to truly master it.

14. Sparda

Like Father, Like Son

The Devil Sword Sparda, a formidable blade, was originally possessed by Dark Knight Sparda, father to both Dante and Vergil. This powerful weapon is actually the transformed version of Force Edge, appearing as a terrifying tool covered in demonic tissue and embellished with bones.

In the same vein as Dante using his sword called Rebellion, Sparda primarily employs a set of moves analogous to that weapon, with only a few Swordmaster techniques being unique variations or modifications of Rebellion’s original moveset.

Frankly speaking, while Devil Sword Sparda is renowned for its legend, its gameplay isn’t particularly noteworthy. In essence, it functions identically to Rebellion, and performing an air attack transforms into a Helm Breaker, requiring a distinct button press and style change to execute an Aerial Rave.

13. Devil Bringer

Send Them Back To Hell

Nothing is more thrilling than impaling a demon into solid concrete with a powerful strike, and the Devil Bringer enables you to accomplish just that. In his initial appearance in DMC4, Nero’s Devil Bringer exudes a radiant, demonic aura.

In DMC5, he grows back his lost arm, but instead of the Devil Bringer, it transforms into spectral, demonic hands capable of seizing enemies with grab attacks.

As a devoted follower of this captivating game, I’ve noticed an intriguing feature about the Devil Bringer – it boasts a distinct grab attack for each demon. This special move can be unleashed only on less formidable adversaries or when a boss is in a vulnerable state, and boy, does it pack a punch! The damage it inflicts is simply enormous.

Additionally, timing your moves strategically allows you to exploit the Devil Bringer’s power, enabling you to strike your foe right after Nero swings his Red Queen, inflicting additional harm.

12. Mirage Edge

Destructive Illusion

Through crafting a phantom version of his father’s sword, the Force Edge, Vergil now has the ability to wield both the Mirage Edge and Yamato simultaneously. This allows him to employ a distinctive combat style reminiscent of Dante’s.

Since the Mirage Edge is modeled after the Force Edge, it adopts similar attack patterns from the Devil Sword Sparda. These attacks seamlessly transition one into another with swift circular blows and Stinger thrusts. Moreover, the Mirage Edge can be tossed like a boomerang, slicing through adversaries.

Engaging Vergil’s Sin Devil Trigger initiates a collection of potent assaults to elevate his combos, reaching its peak with the Deep Stinger, an ultimate maneuver reminiscent of Judgment Cut End. In this move, Vergil lunges forward like a menacing celestial drill, piercing through the heavens.

11. Devil Breaker

Need A Hand?

In the heat of battle when Vergil, now weakened, launched an attack on me, I sadly lost my Devil Bringer arm. However, luck was on my side as my sister, Nico, swiftly stepped in and engineered and crafted mechanical prosthetics known as Devil Breakers for me. These innovative tools have since become indispensable in my ongoing fight against demons.

In all, there are 13 different Devil Breakers, some of which come as downloadable content. Each one offers unique attributes that significantly alter Nero’s gameplay experience. From electrifying opponents to firing a rocket punch that homes in on targets, these Devil Breakers exhibit great versatility and can be equipped either before embarking on missions or at resting points during the game.

Not only do these devices allow for quick combination attacks, but they can also be built up for a potent strike. Given their intricate design by Nico, the Devil Breakers typically wear out after such use or can be intentionally exploded to swap them with a fresh arm. Consequently, Nero has the ability to carry several Devil Breakers, with a limit of eight before needing to restock.

Among all Devil Breakers, Overture, Gerbera, and Punch Line seem particularly effective for linking combos and keeping enemies airborne. However, each Devil Breaker possesses its unique value, with Sweet Surrender appearing to be more of a novelty than a practical tool…

10. Blue Rose

Bang, Bang, Bang

Nero wields a multi-shot weapon known as the “Blue Rose,” which can pierce through the tough hides of demons, ripping into their bodies.

Just as its user, Blue Rose delivers a powerful blow, and can accumulate energy with “Color Up” bursts, these eventually detonate with a delay, sending opponents flying for seamless follow-up combos.

On the PlayStation platform, it’s possible to customize the controls for Blue Rose such that the trigger is assigned instead of the regular buttons. This setup allows for a smoother charging of the Blue Rose during combat combos, making it simpler to inflict damage.

9. Ebony & Ivory

Jackpot!

As a gamer, I can’t help but marvel at the legendary weapons that have graced the gaming world – Dante’s twin pistols, affectionately known as Ebony and Ivory. These M1911-style semiautomatics were meticulously crafted by the skilled hands of Nell Goldstein. Ebony, with its precision and power, is a force to be reckoned with, while Ivory, with its rapid-fire capabilities, keeps enemies at bay in a blur of bullets.

Although they may not deliver a strong impact individually, Ebony and Ivory are capable of continuously firing and work optimally for bouncing off enemies and accumulating impressive style points.

With Gunslinger equipped, Dante becomes agile in mid-air, extending both his and his foe’s hang time by executing aerial acrobatics. He also has the ability to fire at opponents from various directions.

8. Summoned Swords

Out Of Bullets, But Not Out Of Options

Instead of appearing as traditional firearms, the Summoned Swords function as Vergil’s alternative to guns, being conjured through his magical powers derived from his demonic energy.

Called Swords, these are adaptable tools that can be conjured in numerous layouts, catering to both offensive and defensive needs. One distinctive maneuver involving this weapon is when Vergil summons a spinning blade array to maintain distance from opponents, or alternatively, to create a whirlwind of blades around an enemy before impaling them from all directions.

Vergil can establish combos using certain moves such as the Heavy Rain Blades that freeze his opponent on the spot, and Blistering Blades which shoot multiple blades towards the target.

As a gamer, wielding the power to conjure up hovering blades under my command, it feels nothing short of amazing, knowing it’s Vergil’s ranged weapon.

7. King Cerberus

Fire, Ice, Lightning

In DMC3, King Cerberus is a three-pronged weapon, serving as an upgraded version of the original Cerberus Devil Arm. Obtained by defeating King Cerberus as Dante during Mission 16.

Apart from retaining the ice powers like the initial Cerberus Devil Arm, this variant possesses an extra talent: it can transform into a flaming bo staff with tips ablaze and a three-piece staff charged with lightning.

As I dive into the game, King Cerberus’s moves leave me dazzled with their acrobatic flair and blazing speed. His strategy seems to be about overpowering foes without mercy, striking them relentlessly. The fundamental attacks mimic Bruce Lee’s icy nunchaku style, while his Swordmaster attacks transform into fiery bo staff sweeps covering a wide area. When I charge up, he releases electrifying strikes from his three-section staff, leaving me in awe of his power and skill.

This tool is both enjoyable and adaptable, making it great for various situations, and it chains smoothly into combinations. Additionally, the moves are so visually impressive that they give the impression that you could perform them personally.

6. Balrog

Ignite The Flames

In every installment of the Devil May Cry series, it’s nearly a customary feature to include a Devil Arm, which gives you the power to mercilessly annihilate demons. Characters like Ifrit, Beowulf, and Gilgamesh serve as examples of these Devil Arms. Balrog, too, is part armor – gauntlets and greaves – that empowers Dante to deliver devastating blows to his foes. This Devil Arm offers two distinct move sets that can be effortlessly transitioned with a single command.

Dante’s boxing technique, known as Blow Mode, consists of quick, close-range punches similar to a machine gun, while dodging incoming enemy attacks by bobbing and weaving. It also accumulates Ignition stacks, which increase damage output, and can be utilized in the Swordmaster style for powerful Shoryuken uppercuts and crosses.

In essence, the Kick Mode enables Dante to execute agile kicks that blend elements of capoeira and taekwondo, as indicated by its name. Although these kicks are less swift than those in Blow Mode, they seamlessly transition into breakdancing moves, creating a barrier against weaker enemies.

5. Beowulf

Devastation

It’s tough choosing which one is superior between Balrog and Beowulf, so we opted to place them side by side. Despite sharing similarities as they both excel in powerful punches and kicks, their approaches and representations during gameplay differ significantly.

In a close contest, it’s ultimately Beowulf’s impressive displays of force and substantial damage infliction that sets him apart from Balrog.

In a similar vein to its earlier versions in DMC3 and DMC4, Beowulf emphasizes powerful and devastating attacks over stylish ones, as demonstrated by the ability to charge each strike for increased force.

In addition to DMC5, Beowulf was granted extra attacks, including the devastating “Hell on Earth” ultimate move which obliterates foes when Vergil transforms into his Sin Devil Trigger state. Essentially, Beowulf takes on the role of a nuclear weapon, appearing as luminous gauntlets and greaves.

4. Rebellion

Most Iconic Sword

Among all other swords, none can rival the unique status of the Rebellion. As Dante’s signature weapon and one of gaming’s most recognizable blades, Rebellion is one of the original three swords that Sparda forged when he divided his power into three.

In simpler terms, it’s hardly exceptional that Rebellion serves as a weapon in DMC5, given that it’s the standard starting sword for Dante, and is featured prominently in just one mission because of the plot developments.

While Rebellion may not stand out due to its power compared to Devil Sword Sparda later in the series, it maintains a significant status due to its iconic nature.

3. Red Queen

Rev That Engine

Initially, Nero’s introduction in DMC4 left some fans disgruntled because they preferred Dante and experienced a sense of disappointment similar to the one Metal Gear fans felt when it was revealed that they were controlling Raiden instead of Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Instead of an eccentric Devil Hunter, there’s a boisterous young fellow who handles his electric-powered blade as if it were a baseball bat. Similar to its user, the Red Queen is a wild weapon that functions on the Exceed system, allowing it to be revved up for wide, sweeping swipes.

Or:

Instead of a zany Devil Hunter, you’ve got a rowdy young man who uses his electric-driven sword like a baseball bat. Just as its owner, the Red Queen is a reckless weapon that runs on the Exceed system, enabling it to be revved for broad, spinning slashes.

As a gamer, I’ve found that wielding Red Queen is an absolute blast! The Exceed mechanic lets me unleash a flurry of powerful strikes by timing my triggers just right. This not only keeps Red Queen charging up but also gives it a significant damage boost. It’s like pushing its limits beyond the ordinary, making for some truly aggressive moves that leave enemies reeling!
