As a longtime Diablo fanatic, I can’t help but feel a pang of frustration when it comes to the current state of poison in Diablo 4’s Season 5. I’ve been around the block a few times with this game, and I’ve seen my fair share of overpowered status effects, but this one takes the cake.
In the game Diablo 4, poison serves as a potent status affliction often employed by enemies, including many mobs and bosses, with the intention of weakening or defeating you. However, during Season 5, its power has been significantly increased to such an extent that some players suspect it may be experiencing a bug.
It’s not uncommon to hear complaints about mechanics being too powerful, but the current issue lies in players getting killed by invisible pools of poison. Regardless of using healing items, the continuous damage they receive proves lethal. In essence, the damage-over-time is excessively high.
It’s particularly troublesome because many players are encountering these problems in Nightmare Dungeons and endgame challenges – these are the areas where you should be playing to acquire better equipment.
It’s a status effect that can be frustrating, especially when you run out or don’t manage to get to your healing in time. It’s been so bad in Season 5 that one player got killed by poison straight after respawning, having died from it the first time.
Poison so strong it killed me twice

User ‘Juicerhebatman’ posted a video on Reddit, which depicted them perishing due to poisoning. Upon resurrection, they succumbed instantly once more as the harmful effect persisted.
An effective strategy for handling poison includes utilizing an Elixir of Poison Resistance or donning equipment that enhances your resistance to Durability over Time (DoT) and poison, such as Andariel’s Visage and Hunter’s Zenith. Acquiring these items can prove challenging, however, and many players have found it tough to cope with poison using these methods.
As a seasoned adventurer who has ventured through the treacherous Sirocco Caverns and Guulrahn Canals countless times, I can attest to the fact that my encounters with poison mobs in these areas have been far more frequent than any other elemental challenge. It seems as though the potency of this particular threat is significantly higher compared to others, making it a constant source of frustration and danger for me during my expeditions.
For quite some time now, ever since Diablo 4 was launched, players have speculated that the issue they’re experiencing is either an oversight or a bug that the developers haven’t noticed yet. Regardless of the cause, this problem has been a significant point of frustration for the community, and this season, that frustration has hit its maximum level.
“Poison damage seems to be bugged or overpowered since release, honestly. The moment something poisonous touches you in high difficulty content, the game starts freaking out,” another player said.
If you’re encountering the same problem, the most effective solution would be to ensure your character is equipped with an optimal build for this game season. With many challenging battles ahead, even without poison, being well-prepared is essential for conquering late-game challenges.
