Dogecoin Founder Stresses Crucial Role of Satoshi Nakamoto

As Billy Markus, also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, I find myself reflecting upon the recent stir caused by the “Money Electric: Bitcoin Mystery” documentary. While I appreciate the effort put into unraveling the enigma that is Satoshi Nakamoto, I must admit that the conclusion drawn seems far-fetched to me. The cryptocurrency world has always been about anonymity and decentralization; revealing who Satoshi was could disrupt this very essence.

Billy Markus (also known as Shibetoshi Nakamoto on social media), co-creator of the initial meme cryptocurrency Dogecoin alongside Jackson Palmer in 2013, has shared a tweet referencing Satoshi Nakamoto, the enigmatic figure behind Bitcoin, and the recently released HBO documentary about him.

The documentary titled “Money Electric: Bitcoin Enigma” has been out for over a week now, causing ripples across the cryptocurrency sector as it claimed to unmask the real identity behind the creation of Bitcoin. However, this revelation was met with skepticism from early Bitcoin supporters such as Markus and Adam Back, a prominent figure in the cypherpunk community who is mentioned in the Bitcoin white paper, as they did not concur with the filmmaker’s findings.

“Money Electric: Bitcoin Mystery” “reveals” real Satoshi

In this documentary, the makers showcased several individuals whom they suspected might be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of digital gold. After interviewing these candidates, the film’s director reached the conclusion that Peter Todd, an early Bitcoin developer, was likely the one behind its creation.

Todd countered this claim and went as far as criticizing the director for potentially endangering not only himself but also his family. Several early Bitcoin enthusiasts, such as Samson Mow from JAN3 and Adam Back of Blockstream, shared on Twitter that uncovering the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator (or creators) of Bitcoin, may forever remain a mystery.

Mow voiced a theory that Nakamoto realized that if Bitcoin succeeds in the future “they’d come after him”, probably referring to the regulators and law-enforcement agencies. Before the release of the film, the majority of Polymarket users bet that Len Sassaman would be revealed as Satoshi.

Satoshi “changed the world forever”: DOGE co-founder

In 2021, Elon Musk suggested that Nick Szabo was the creator of Bitcoin. Conversely, Billy Markus voiced his opinion in a documentary, stating that he believes Bitcoin’s origins lie with Hal Finney and his associates. It is important to note that Finney was an early developer of Bitcoin and was the first recipient of a Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto himself, as a test. Regrettably, Finney passed away in 2014 due to a terminal illness.

In response to a light-hearted admission from a @dogeofficialceo user that they were “Satoshi Nakamoto Poopoo,” Markus acknowledged their significant impact on the world, stating: “You’ve altered the course of history.

you changed the world forever
