Unlike earlier arcs filled with intense battles like those on Treasure Island or in Corn City, this final part of the series lets Senku and his friends concentrate on what they do best: peacefully developing science and technology at their own speed. This is mostly a positive change for the show’s conclusion.
The final part of the season had a few episodes that felt quite relaxed, even a little slow-paced, with generally good results. While the lighter tone didn’t quite fit the intensity of the “FIRE” episode, which featured a lot of playful scenes in Spain, “The Universe is Written in the Language of Math” benefited from focusing on Sai Nanami’s personal story. Overall, the results aren’t perfect, but fans of Dr. Stone are getting what is arguably one of the best and most impactful moments in the entire anime series.
Sai Nanami is Cool But Also a Familiar Archetype

I watched the latest episode of Dr. Stone and while it was generally enjoyable to see Sai Nanami, the math genius, join Senku’s group, something felt a little off. It struck me how Sai is written as the classic child prodigy – incredibly gifted, but stuck in a situation where everyone wants to use his talents. It’s a story we’ve seen before: a brilliant kid who doesn’t get to just be a kid, and ends up feeling resentful. He doesn’t hate being smart, but it often feels like he might as well, given how others treat him. It’s a familiar and somewhat predictable arc, honestly.
While the newest character in Dr. Stone is generally enjoyable, this one flaw is noticeable, especially during flashback scenes. We’ve seen this trope before – a character defined by a single, over-the-top skill or personality trait – particularly in anime and Western media. When done poorly, it makes the character feel less like a person and more like a tool used to advance the plot, which can be unsatisfying.
Sai Nanami isn’t great in the latest Dr. Stone episode, but he’s not terrible either. Dr. Stone has featured characters obsessed with a single skill before – like the watchmaker Joel or the cartographer Chelsea – but Sai’s dedication to math and coding is extreme. He’s so focused on these things that his thinking can be very straightforward. Luckily, his relationship with Ryusui helps balance that out.

Talent and Vision Don’t Always Mesh
The latest episode of Dr. Stone really strengthens Sai Nanami’s character, adding more depth thanks to the introduction of his brother, Ryusui. The two brothers are fascinating because they both highlight and play off each other’s traits. Sai is a gifted but somewhat self-centered artist, while Ryusui is driven, sociable, and always looking for the next challenge. Together, they’d be a powerful force – Sai has the skill to build anything, and Ryusui has the vision to decide what should be built. Essentially, Sai is the one who gets things done, and Ryusui is the one who provides direction.

Often, things don’t go as planned for these brothers, and that’s what makes the latest episode of Dr. Stone so enjoyable. Funny flashbacks reveal Sai just wants to be left alone to work on his inventions, while Ryusui is eager to use Sai’s abilities for larger projects. Though they get along, Ryusui represents how society tends to take advantage of talented people, which surprisingly strengthens their brotherly connection. Ryusui genuinely cares for and respects Sai, but he also can’t resist the urge to put him to work. This creates a fascinating ambiguity about how good of a brother Ryusui actually is.

There’s Ample Room For Sai’s Unusual Backstory
Interestingly, the latest episode of Dr. Stone makes a good choice by slowing down the story. While the characters are racing against time to launch a moon mission, it’s important to give them personal moments too. With the main conflicts in Dr. Stone largely resolved, the show needs to focus on character development to keep things engaging.
Although Sai Nanami might seem like a familiar character, his story in the latest episode is exactly what Dr. Stone needed to feel more complete. Senku has always valued friendship, despite being a scientist who prioritizes logic, and Sai beautifully demonstrates this caring side of his personality.
