The Dragon Ball series is famous for its incredibly powerful characters. Even in the original Dragon Ball Z, many characters could easily destroy planets. As the series moved into Dragon Ball Super, the power levels became extreme – characters like Super Saiyan God Goku and Beerus were so strong their punches threatened to shatter the universe.
Dragon Ball Super consistently raises the power levels of its strongest characters through new transformations, incredibly powerful wishes, unique fusions, and a complex system of gods that seems unbeatable. With the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the Z-Fighters are at their most powerful yet, and they’re now facing a massive threat in Black Frieza who could destroy entire universes. By the end of the Dragon Ball manga, its characters are predicted to be the most overwhelmingly powerful in all of anime and manga.
10. Jiren Was Basically Untouchable in the Tournament of Power
Jiren is the most powerful fighter in Universe 11, and the only regular being proven to be stronger than its God of Destruction. While Goku, Frieza, and Android 17 eventually overwhelm him with combined efforts, no one actually beats Jiren in a one-on-one fight during the Tournament of Power. The series, Dragon Ball Super, further establishes his strength by showing him legitimately defeating Goku even when Goku is using his Ultra Instinct form.
In Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku continues to measure his strength against Jiren and uses him as motivation to train. While Goku has become much more powerful since their first encounter, he clearly made an impact on Jiren. Jiren was already dedicated to being the strongest in his universe, but now that he’s aware of fighters like Goku and the power of teamwork, a newly trained Jiren could finally give Goku the challenging battle he’s been searching for.
9. Gas Instantly Becomes the Strongest Fighter in Universe 7 Anytime He’s Surpassed
Once Granolah used the Dragon Balls to become the strongest in Universe 7, Elec decided to do the same for his brother Gas. He traveled to Cereal to gather the Dragon Balls and used Toronbo to make Gas the most powerful warrior. However, unlike Granolah’s wish which sacrificed his lifespan for power, Elec’s wish simply aged Gas up to the point where he would naturally be stronger than everyone else.
Gas becomes incredibly strong during the final fight of the Granolah the Survivor Saga because of Elec’s wish. He quickly becomes more powerful than Granolah, Vegeta, and even Goku in his Ultra Instinct form. Although they manage to briefly gain the upper hand by teaming up, Gas reaches an overwhelming level of power when he awakens. Ultimately, he’s defeated because Frieza wasn’t in Universe 7 when the wish was granted, allowing Frieza to kill him using his Black Frieza form.
8. Gohan Beast Has Beastly Potential Without Needing to Train
Gohan is arguably the most naturally gifted fighter in the entire Dragon Ball series. As a child of only four years old, he already possessed more power than Goku had after over twenty years of intense training. By the end of Dragon Ball Z, his Ultimate form made him the strongest individual fighter around. Gohan’s incredible natural talent means he can quickly match the strength of those who have spent their lives perfecting their skills.
I watched Gohan’s power level dip a bit after the introduction of God Ki in Battle of Gods, but Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero really brought him back into the spotlight. Unlocking his Beast form put him right at the top as the strongest of the Z-Fighters, no question. Honestly, Gohan Beast is currently the most powerful main character. He’s strong enough to have knocked Goku out of his Perfected Ultra Instinct, and he even overpowered Broly during their training match. As we head into the Black Frieza Saga, I think Gohan Beast is their best hope for finally defeating Frieza for good.
7. Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Was Powerful Enough to Require Goku & Vegeta to Fuse Into Gogeta
When it comes to raw potential in the Dragon Ball universe, only Broly surpasses Gohan. Born around the same time as Goku and Vegeta, Broly becomes far more powerful when he reaches his full strength. As shown in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, his natural power level already exceeds that of Goku and Vegeta in their God forms. Even as a regular Super Saiyan, Broly is stronger than Super Saiyan Blue. Ultimately, the only one who could defeat him in his Legendary Super Saiyan form was Gogeta.
Currently in Dragon Ball Super chapter 103, Broly is training with Goku and Vegeta to fully unlock his potential while staying in control. His practice fight with Gohan Beast shows he’s making significant progress. If Broly learns to control his Full Power Super Saiyan form, he’ll be able to access the incredible power levels that previously required Goku and Vegeta to fuse into Gogeta, at will. With the same kind of training Goku and Vegeta received when they were younger, Broly would be nearly invincible.
6. Black Frieza Defeated Ultra Instinct Goku & Ultra Ego Vegeta With One Hit
As a huge Dragon Ball fan, I always remember Frieza being the absolute strongest when we first met him in Dragon Ball Z! But things quickly changed with all the new transformations like Super Saiyan, and then we got Androids, Majins, and even Fusions that were even stronger. What I really loved was when Akira Toriyama brought Frieza back in Resurrection F. He totally flipped the script and made Frieza ridiculously powerful – arguably the most overpowered villain we’ve seen! It turns out the reason Frieza lost to Goku wasn’t because Goku was inherently stronger, but simply because Frieza never bothered to train! It’s a fantastic retcon that really elevates his character.
Frieza achieved incredible power in just four months of training in Dragon Ball Super, exceeding the strength of Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta as Golden Frieza. After ten years of training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he reached his Black Frieza form and effortlessly defeated both Ultra Instinct Goku and Ultra Ego Vegeta with a single blow. Black Frieza is poised to be the next major antagonist in the Dragon Ball Super manga, and it’s unclear how the heroes will overcome his immense power without using fusion.
5. Vegito is Only Held Back By the Potara’s Time Limit
At the end of the original Dragon Ball Z series, Vegito was the strongest fighter. However, his power level wasn’t enough to compete with characters who could use God Ki. This is why, in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, Vegito wasn’t even considered a viable option against Beerus, and Goku had to find another way to gain power – by becoming a Super Saiyan God. Things changed when Goku and Vegeta fused again as Vegito during the fight against Fused Zamasu in the Goku Black Saga.
Fused Zamasu is incredibly powerful and can’t be killed, but Super Saiyan Blue Vegito easily defeats him. The Dragon Ball Super manga shows Vegito Blue completely dominating Zamasu. However, Vegito is so strong that the Potara earrings, which usually last an hour for mortals, can’t handle his power. Using God Ki at full strength drains the fusion quickly, causing Goku and Vegeta to separate after only a few minutes. If the Potara fusion was permanent, Vegito could potentially be even stronger than Gogeta.
4. Beerus Keeps Raising the Bar Anytime Goku & Vegeta Catch Up to Him
Throughout Dragon Ball Super, Goku and Vegeta have constantly tried to reach Beerus’s power level, but he always remains beyond their grasp. Despite Goku mastering Ultra Instinct and Vegeta unlocking his full potential with Ultra Ego, they still fall short. This is typical for Gods of Destruction, as their roles inherently grant them immense power, but Beerus is exceptionally strong – truly in a league of his own.
Beerus is unique among Gods of Destruction because he can both destroy things with the Hakai technique and use the powerful Ultra Instinct form. During the Universe Survival Saga in the Dragon Ball Super manga, all the Gods of Destruction compete in a free-for-all battle, where Beerus easily avoids every attack and proves he’s the strongest. It seems unlikely Goku and Vegeta will become stronger than Beerus unless it happens near the very end of the Dragon Ball Super manga series.
3. Gogeta is the Most Overpowered Saiyan in Dragon Ball History
Gogeta is arguably the strongest character in the Dragon Ball series, especially when it comes to fusions and Saiyans. He’s significantly more powerful than Vegito was during the fight with Goku Black, because Goku and Vegeta are both stronger in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. What’s unique about Gogeta is that he doesn’t revert back to Goku and Vegeta during his fight with Broly – he maintains his fused form throughout. In his Super Saiyan Blue form, Gogeta is so powerful he can actually break through dimensions, sending himself and his opponent to a strange, swirling realm.
Gogeta is incredibly powerful – potentially even strong enough to defeat a god like Beerus. Because of Goku and Vegeta’s intense rivalry and close bond, their fusion into Gogeta results in a much bigger power increase than most fusions. If they simply fused, they could easily defeat threats like Black Frieza and even Beerus. However, their strong Saiyan pride usually prevents them from doing so.
2. Whis & The Angels Will Never Be Surpassed
After Zeno, the Angels are the most powerful beings in the Dragon Ball universe. Whis, for example, handles every battle with ease. He dodges all of Broly’s attacks without effort and even caught a blow from Moro so quickly that only Goku, when using Perfected Ultra Instinct, could have noticed. Because they train the Gods of Destruction, every Angel in each universe is capable of similar incredible feats.
Similarly, the Grand Priest is undoubtedly the most powerful Angel in Dragon Ball Super. He’s the father of all the Angels and personally trained them to their current abilities. When Dragon Ball Super was airing, fans often wondered if the story would eventually focus on mortals fighting against the Gods and Angels. However, it’s hard to imagine any of the Z-Fighters – even incredibly strong characters like Gogeta – ever being able to defeat an Angel.
1. Zeno Can Erase Literally Anyone & Anything With the Blink of an Eye
Zeno is arguably the strongest character in all of Dragon Ball. He isn’t a traditional fighter, but that’s not a weakness. While Rymus from Dragon Ball DAIMA actually created the multiverse, Zeno is so powerful that every God of Destruction, even the usually confident Beerus, is completely afraid of him.
During the Goku Black storyline, Fused Zamasu threatened the entire multiverse. However, Zeno easily solved the problem by completely wiping out every universe, including the immortal Zamasu, and everything within them. Zeno’s power is such that he could instantly eliminate even the strongest characters from Dragon Ball. The fact that he exists within the empty void demonstrates just how incredibly powerful he is – no anime character stands a chance against him, let alone could defeat him.
