Square Enix has announced the latest installment in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams. This news comes five years after the initial announcement of a new main entry, originally titled Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate.
The developers have completely restarted this project, abandoning their previous game, The Flames of Fate, to focus on this new one. It now features a brand new hero and story, a significant departure from their earlier plans.
With the series marking its 40th anniversary this year, fans were anticipating further developments with ‘The Flames of Fate.’ However, Square Enix surprised everyone by announcing an entirely new game. As a result, details are scarce and there’s currently no confirmed release date.
The new trailer shows off some impressive environments and a recognizable art style. The main character hasn’t been named yet and appears tired. We also get a glimpse of two other characters: a lizard-like man and a woman on a hover bike. You can check it out below.
Square Enix revealed not only Dragon Quest 12: Beyond Dreams, but also Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, both coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. A remastered version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is also planned for the Switch 2, offering improved graphics and gameplay.
