A player of “World of Warcraft” has developed a personalized Monster Manual for “Dungeons & Dragons,” featuring 13 unique characters and creatures from Azeroth. This creative work includes their stats and distinctive drawings. This “World of Warcraft” fan creation marks the initial phase of a larger project, with additional elements expected in the future.
In essence, it’s clear that games like Dungeons & Dragons and World of Warcraft share a strong bond. The early development of Warcraft was significantly influenced by D&D, with the name itself being derived from a character played by Samwise Didier, a former senior art director at Blizzard Entertainment. For those with an observant eye, it’s not hard to spot tributes to Dungeons & Dragons scattered across the world of World of Warcraft. Classes like the Paladin and spells such as Cone of Cold are just a few examples.
Currently, an artist is merging the worlds of these two popular franchises in a unique way. Art enthusiast Yagiz Kani, who enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons and following World of Warcraft, has begun creating a custom Monster Manual filled with Azeroth’s creatures for use in Dungeons & Dragons games. This project, showcased on Twitter and ArtStation, features 13 distinct World of Warcraft creatures, each complete with original illustrations and Dungeons & Dragons statistics. Creatures such as the Warlock minions like the Imp, Felhoud, Voidwalker, Infernal, humanoid races like Kobold, Quilboar, Murloc, and even the notorious Hogger, Scourge of Elwynn, are just a few examples of the creatures included in this fan-made Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual.
Fan-Made World of Warcraft D&D Monster Manual
As a fellow enthusiast, I’d like to clarify that while I’ve dabbled in the realm of Dungeons & Dragons, I don’t claim to be a game designer or a dungeon master. The stat blocks I’ve created are more about capturing an aesthetic and feel, rather than ensuring game balance. However, for those DMs who might find these World of Warcraft monsters appealing for their own Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, they can certainly serve as a strong foundation to build upon.
This personal World of Warcraft Monster Manual project by Kani is set to be divided into multiple segments. Already in the works is Part Two, where classic World of Warcraft classes will be showcased, along with additional creatures and races.
In addition to this project, Kani has produced numerous other works of 2D and 3D fan art. Among these are ideas for the characters in Marvel Rivals, the Dragon Slayer sword from Berserk, and Cloud’s Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7 reimagined in World of Warcraft’s distinctive style. In terms of professional work, they have held roles as both the lead concept artist and lead texture artist for Way of Kings, a tower defense mobile game developed by Gameflex. Gamers eager to see what they will produce next are advised to regularly check their ArtStation portfolio.
