A movie based on the popular video game Elden Ring is in the works! IGN reports that Cailee Spaeny (known for Alien: Romulus, Civil War, and Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery) and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall, Spectre, No Time to Die) will star. A24 has announced the film will hit theaters on March 3, 2028.
The film will star Nick Offerman, known from The Last of Us and Parks and Recreation, and Peter Serafinowicz, who appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy. You can find the complete cast list below. While we know who’s acting in the movie, their roles are still a mystery.
Last May, A24 officially announced they’re making a movie based on the video game Elden Ring. Alex Garland will direct and write the film. George R.R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, is joining the production as a producer, alongside Vince Geradis, Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich.
In a recent interview, Garland shared his love for the game Elden Ring and admitted that Malenia, Blade of Miquella, was the most challenging boss he faced.
Malenia is a really difficult boss. I’ve played the game seven times now, and even with strong gear and a leveled-up character, I just keep trying and trying. I learned this strategy from playing Dark Souls – it’s not about improving your skill, but more about persistence. You just keep at it until, eventually, you win, almost by chance.
He shared that his initial proposal for the Elden Ring movie involved a detailed 160-page script, including 40 pages of accompanying artwork. He used this script to pitch the film idea to Bandai Namco, and they appeared to like it.
Earlier this month, a fan discovered one of the places where the show was being filmed – and since it was nearby, they filmed a short video. Although the video didn’t reveal much about the show, it did show a crumbling Church of Marika, giving us a first look at a real-life statue of the character Marika.
Currently, you can still play Elden Ring on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, including both the original game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, is in development, and pre-orders recently appeared on Amazon for $79.99.
