Elon Musk Wants Everyone To Pay To Use X, But Can You Pay In Dogecoin?

Dogecoin is gaining attention once more due to rumors that X, previously known as Twitter, will introduce DOGE payments. This announcement came from Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, stating that this change aims to filter out automated or bot accounts during new user registrations by charging a fee for posting and interacting on the site.

X Is Moving To Pay-To-Play

To address the increasing issue of bots on the X social media platform (previously Twitter), Elon Musk has suggested implementing a user fee. The idea is that this fee would increase the cost for bot operators to open numerous accounts simultaneously, thereby reducing this problematic behavior.

Musk validated the report in a response to X Daily News’ X-post on the platform. The X Daily News article initially reported that new users on the platform would need to pay to interact with posts, specifically to reply, “like,” or bookmark, without first settling this fee.

This isn’t a recent development; the social media site has been enforcing this policy in certain areas, such as the Philippines and New Zealand. Now, they plan to extend this regulation to all new users.

In the present situation, users in the Philippines and New Zealand who are newly signing up for X need to pay an annual fee of $1 to use our platform. Although this cost appears insignificant, it can add up significantly for bot operators generating thousands of new X accounts on a daily basis. Our objective is that by making these activities more expensive for the bot operators, the number of bots being created will decrease substantially.

In the areas where the policy is now being implemented, we conducted experiments to assess its ability to lessen spam and enhance user experience. Based on these trials, it can be assumed that the planned full-scale implementation will be successful.

“Regrettably, a modest charge for new users seeking write access is necessary to limit the unyielding attacks from bots, as current AI and troll farms can effortlessly bypass ‘are you a bot’ checks,” Elon Musk explained.

Dogecoin Payments To Be Implemented?

Elon Musk’s promise of integrating Dogecoin payments on X platform is an old story that hasn’t been realized yet. However, the Dogecoin community remains optimistic, as X continues its development into a payment system and secures money transmitter licenses from various US states.

It’s worth noting that X currently supports cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin for tipping creators. Nevertheless, there aren’t significant use cases for alternative cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin on the platform for transactions such as subscription fees or revenue sharing from ads with content creators.

Due to the minimal cost of opening new accounts with X and the affordability of Dogecoin’s low transaction fees, it’s plausible that Dogecoin may be adopted as a payment option in the future. Its swift transaction process makes it an excellent choice for small financial exchanges, further highlighting its potential value as a cryptocurrency for everyday use.
