EOS Antelope Latest Upgrade Landed in Testnet: What Changes?

As a long-term crypto investor, I’ve seen my fair share of blockchain upgrades and their impact on various projects. The recent news about the Antelope Spring 1.0 upgrade for the EOS Network has piqued my interest due to its potential to significantly enhance transaction performance and privacy.

With the Savanna consensus algorithm utilized in Spring 1.0, EOS Network experiences significantly increased transaction finality and peak throughput. Instant confirmation is now achievable for all transactions within this blockchain platform.

Antelope Spring 1.0 advances Savanna consensus, upgrade is live in testnet

The EOS Network Foundation, the non-profit organization responsible for the EOS network and its associated ecosystem, recently made an announcement. This announcement revealed that a significant upgrade has been implemented on the Jungle testnet. Due to the inclusion of sophisticated features, this update is projected to enhance EOS transaction performance by up to 100 times.

This version has undergone considerable improvements, most notably the introduction of the innovative Savanna consensus algorithm. Due to these significant enhancements, the developers have decided to present it as an entirely new product: Antelope Spring 1.0.

With the addition of aggregate BLS signatures, transactions can be verified remarkably quickly – within milliseconds. This feature is essential for creating zero-knowledge proof systems, which are game-changers when it comes to enhancing privacy and security throughout the EOS Network.

Additionally, Spring 1.0 introduces a new structure for the Block Production role, separating it into two distinct parts: Block Proposers and Block Finalizers. The intention behind this modification is to foster greater decentralization in network management and boost overall productivity.

This separation of duties not only augments network safety and predictability but also facilitates interblockchain communication and allows third parties to monitor and verify network health without directly participating in transaction creation.

The transition to the Spring 1.0-enabled mainnet is expected to start by the end of July 2024.
