In the coming days, The Coalition is planning to let players journey into Sera’s past once again with the imminent launches of Gears of War: Reloaded and Gears of War: E-Day. The former will offer PlayStation users their first taste of the Gears of War universe this August, by way of a remastered version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, which is itself an upgraded version of the original 2006 release of Gears of War 1. A specific launch date for Gears of War: E-Day hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s anticipated that details regarding

In “E-Day,” players will travel back 14 years to experience the start of the Locust War, an event known as Emergence Day. This game is set before the Lightmass Offensive and allows gamers to play as younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Together with COG forces, they’ll face off against the Locust Horde and its terrifying Hollow creatures. As the earliest prequel in the “Gears” franchise to date, many characters from modern “Gears” titles may not appear in the game. However, there is a possibility that some beloved characters might make an appearance in “E-Day’s” campaign.

Which Characters Should Return in Gears of War: E-Day

Possible Returning COG Troops in E-Day

Since it’s a prequel, it’s unlikely that characters Fenix and Santiago have interacted directly until the events of the original Gears of War trilogy unfold in E-Day. However, this doesn’t rule out other COG characters making an appearance, even if it’s just briefly during E-Day. Characters like Colonel Victor Hoffman, Chairman Richard Prescott, and Anya Stroud are likely to be present in some capacity in E-Day due to their significant roles within the COG military. Furthermore, several popular COG troops may also make appearances in various forms throughout E-Day.

  • Clayton Carmine
  • Gabriel Diaz
  • Tai Kaliso
  • Lahni Kaliso
  • Bernadette Mataki
  • Alicia Valera

It’s reasonable to assume that since Tai Caliso fought alongside Fenix at the beginning of the war, it would be fitting for him to appear in E-Day, thereby establishing the backstory of the Mark 2 Lancer Assault Rifle.

Possible Returning Locust in E-Day

As The Coalition suggests, in the upcoming E-Day, the Locust will be depicted as terrifying “living nightmares” compared to how players grew used to Locust Drones as common enemies in the original Gears trilogy. Instead of taking on major antagonistic roles, these Locust might just be seen as wild, chaotic creatures causing havoc across Sera. However, this new perspective doesn’t mean we won’t see iconic Locust leaders like Skorge and RAAM in E-Day; the latter, who led the initial invasion on Emergence Day, being notable examples. While Marcus Fenix and Damon Baird might not engage these Locust leaders directly, they could still observe their destruction from a distance or witness them killing a few of their comrades.

Potential Gears Book Characters in E-Day

In the Gears games, Emergence Day is rarely shown, so most information about the early stages of the Locust War comes from expanded media like novels and comics. A game titled Gears of War: E-Day could be an excellent chance to introduce characters from these books into a Gears campaign for the first time. For instance, if E-Day includes parts of the Pendulum Wars, Carlos Santiago could serve as a precursor to Fenix and a motivator for Fenix’s future bond with Carlos’ brother Dominic. Similarly, in E-Day, Locust General Sraak might be presented as an adversary, given that he was killed shortly after Emergence Day’s initial invasion at the First Battle of Jannermont.

In the multiplayer mode of “Gears of War: E-Day”, it’s expected that many main characters from the Gears of War series will be present, much like how deceased characters were incorporated into the multiplayer of “Gears 5”. However, these characters are unlikely to make an appearance in the main storyline of “Gears of War: E-Day”.
