With the recent unveiling of the new Extradimensional Crisis set for Pokemon TCG, it’s expected to focus on Ultra Beasts and other creatures from Generation 7. Among these new additions, Nihilego appears to be an excellent opportunity for players to effectively utilize the Poison type.

Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Extradminesional Crisis May Finally Make Poison Decks Good

The diversity in decks used in the Pokemon TCG Pocket has significantly increased due to Rare Candy, and this could alter even more when Extradimensional Crisis is released. One particularly intriguing card is Nihilego, which functions as a basic Pokemon, allowing players to either have it in their starting hand or discover it using a Poke Ball. Notably, it possesses the ability called More Poison, which enhances any poison effects on the opponent’s active Pokemon by +10 damage, resulting in 20 damage per turn instead of 10 when Nihilego is present on the battlefield.

To clarify, this detail does not indicate that the effect is limited to only one instance. This implies that multiple instances of Nihilego can be used together. With two copies, each instance of Poison would cause 30 damage per tick, which could pose a significant issue due to it being ongoing damage. Players can also perform additional attacks alongside this passive damage.

There are numerous Dark-type Pokemon cards that have additional effects associated with the Poison status, suggesting a potentially powerful strategy in Pokemon TCG Pocket Clodsire Ex decks. Even on its own, Nihilego proves to be quite formidable.

Additionally, Nihilego has a 2-Energy attack that inflicts 30 damage and Poison. This makes it easy for Nihilego to work in tandem with itself, creating a potent combination.

The Tool cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket version gained a notable enhancement with the arrival of Celestial Guardians, and among the excellent ones introduced was Poison Barb. This card poisons the opposing active Pokemon after causing damage to the holder, similar to Rocky Helmet. With Nihilego being quite fragile at 70 HP, having it in a deck with more robust Pokemon and equipping them with Poison Barb can potentially ensure that Nihilego never takes the active spot, yet still inflicts a considerable amount of damage.

How Nihilego Can Combo With Other Pokemon TCG Pocket Cards

Many cards complement Nihilego exceptionally well, such as Weezing from Genetic Apex or Grafaiai from Shining Revelry. Weezing can poison the opponent’s active Pokemon if it’s also active, while Grafaiai can do so from any position, excluding a successful coin flip. Other cards like Absol, Alolan Muk, and the new Naganadel aid in managing status conditions and poison. Naganadel has a one-energy attack that poisons the opponent’s active Pokemon for 40 damage. Whether Nihilego and a poison strategy will dominate the meta is yet to be determined, but this approach appears more robust than ever before.
