Far Far West is the new shooting game taking the FPS world by storm, offering fast-paced, chaotic cowboy action. It plays a lot like Helldivers 2 – you’ll dive in, complete missions, grab loot, and try to survive!
The game has some significant changes, so players will need to pick up new skills and strategies to thrive in the desert environment. Here are a few beginner tips for Far Far West that will help you get started quickly.
Quickfire Gameplay Tips
- Healing bottles are always found next to objectives, bosses, and often in chests.
- Both ammo resupplies and heals can be consumed on the go, so there is no need to slow down while running away.
- Most objectives will drop a Joker, making them a great pit stop before the boss.
- Wishing wells can be a great way of getting a lot of currencies, but be careful of bad outcomes.
- Nuke enemies can one-shot, but they are also great wave clearers, so take them out from afar.
- Use spell combos.
The Saloon is Where You Purchase Items & Upgrades
Where All The Magic Happens
- Everything from weapons upgrades to cosmetics
- Understanding spell systems
After completing the tutorial – or if you choose to skip it – you’ll arrive at the Saloon, which serves as the central hub for everything in the game. There’s a lot to explore, so the best first step is to talk to all the characters with exclamation marks above their heads and find out what each one offers.
Every character you meet has a clear purpose, so you’ll immediately know what they can help you with. You’ll find specialists for things like learning spells, customizing your gear, improving your hero, unlocking cosmetics, and even trying your luck at games. Plus, there’s a practice range where you can test out different spells and weapons.
The Best Way To Get Gold
Get Rich Quick for Loadout Upgrades
While there are many ways to find gold in Far Far West, the easiest method is to search for gold veins on the map and complete side objectives during each run. Both of these will give you about 50 extra gold with minimal effort.
Upgrading your equipment can become expensive, so it’s smart to start collecting gold early on. Building up a gold reserve will allow you to fully upgrade your gear and create a powerful build that helps you survive longer.
Understanding Jokers
Pick A Card, Any Card
Jokers act as boosts to your abilities. You can find them temporarily during missions, or permanently attach them to your weapons or character to gain ongoing benefits. These come in different strengths and are a key way to improve, alongside upgrades to your ammo and damage.
Some Jokers worth noting:
- Legendary: gain attack speed for every 50 damage dealt across a single run (5 slots)
- Normal: negates fall damage (1 slot)
- Prime: chance to fire explosive rounds (3 slots)
You can get Jokers by spending Souls, which you’ll earn by finishing missions and defeating enemies. They range in price from 50 to over 1000 Souls, but you won’t be able to use all of them at once – there’s a limit on which ones are available at any given time.
As a player, I’ve found that my character and gear have these limited slots called ‘Joker slots’. Luckily, I can add more as I play! Right now, I’ve got seven open, so I can fit in a combination of Jokers that add up to that – like a three-slot one and a four-slot one, or whatever I prefer. If I want to switch things up, I can sell my current Jokers for a few souls, and the amount I get back depends on how rare they are.
At the beginning of the game, better Jokers are initially locked and require players to reach certain levels to unlock them. However, players can try to get these powerful Jokers early by using the Gamba machine, hoping to win them through luck. This is a risky strategy, as there’s also a chance of getting weaker Jokers instead.
Mission Select
Picking Those Bounties Wisely
- Understanding questlines and different areas
- Picking the right difficulty based on current strength
While it’s enjoyable to explore the town, players will eventually need to engage in combat and defeat enemies. Each area of the game features unique quests, items to find, and challenging bosses. The game’s icons helpfully track your progress, showing which quests you’ve completed and at what difficulty level.
This simplifies choosing your next destination. Once players complete a quest and collect everything in an area, they can freely move on to a new location with fresh challenges and objectives.

Reading The Map
Lots Of Info All At Once
- Learn the icons and what they mean
- Map out a sensible route
Okay, so when you first drop into a mission, you’ll see a map covered in icons – everything from where you need to go for the main objectives to spots where you can find tons of PvE action. Basically, the idea is to hit the objectives, take down the boss, and then get to the extraction point. But honestly, the map shows there’s way more to do than just that main path. There’s a lot of extra stuff to discover and tackle if you want to!
Keeping track of NPC quests is key, as completing them takes multiple attempts. Finishing these one at a time will significantly speed up your progress. Also, don’t forget the question marks – these are quick objectives, often involving a puzzle or minigame, that reward you with gold and sometimes even a joker if you’re fortunate.
As I’ve been exploring, I’ve noticed tons of cool little things that aren’t actually marked on the map – things like wishing wells and hidden music discs! It really makes you have to keep your eyes peeled and use both the map and your own observation skills to find everything. It’s a fun challenge!
Explore the Map and Prioritize Side Objectives Before the Boss
From Point A To B
- Completing side activities in the world
- Finding collectibles like music discs
Okay, so if you want to get the most loot and XP on each run, you really need to plan a quick route. Think about linking your quests together, grabbing everything you need, and avoiding running back over old ground. There’s no real time limit, but honestly, the faster you can complete a run, the better – it just speeds up your progress!
You can earn extra gold and experience by completing optional tasks between main objectives. For example, destroying a small building might give you experience, and powering up a generator could reward you with gold. It’s a good idea to take care of these side activities before facing a boss.
Once an area is completely cleared of items, players can fight the boss. Any extra Jokers they’ve collected will make the fight much easier, particularly when playing alone.
So, What’s Next?
Once you understand the fundamentals, you’ll have endless possibilities. A reliable way to advance is by finishing all the quests in each area. These quests give you extra experience points and also open up new places to discover.
The game has plenty of things to discover, like spells, Jokers, and weapons, so take your time! Focus on enjoying what you find instead of trying to play perfectly.
If you want to quickly reach the later parts of the game, adjusting the difficulty will be helpful. Completing harder missions gives you better rewards, which means you’ll end up with a more powerful character.
