Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Surprises With Dogecoin Message: Details

As a researcher and someone who has followed the cryptocurrency scene closely, I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Kabochan, the beloved Shiba Inu dog who inspired the iconic Dogecoin meme. Her impact on the internet and the crypto community went far beyond being just a meme; she embodied the playful spirit and infectious energy that has come to define this space.

Vitalik Buterin, one of Ethereum‘s co-founders, paid a heartfelt and unexpected homage on X (previously known as Twitter), expressing his sadness over the demise of Kabochan, the cherished Shiba Inu dog whose image served as inspiration for the renowned Dogecoin meme.

Atsuko Sato, Kabosu’s loving owner, reported the heartbreaking news that her treasured pet had passed away peacefully in her sleep. According to Sato, Kabosu’s last moments were tranquil and filled with gentle sunlight filtering through the window, accompanied by the soothing sounds of birds singing outside, signifying a peaceful conclusion to the beloved dog’s fulfilling life.

As I scroll through Buterin’s X account, I come across a heartfelt message: “Rest in peace, Kabochan.” This was his response to Atsuko Sato’s announcement of her passing on her own social media platform.

Rest in peace Kabochan 💛

Kabosu, lovingly referred to as “Kabochan” by her admirers, transcended the realm of mere internet memes. She represented the lighthearted essence of the online community and the burgeoning cryptocurrency scene. The enigmatic expression on her image ignited a viral meme craze across the globe as well as served as the muse for Dogecoin’s creation. Originating as a humorous concept, Dogecoin has since evolved into an eighth-largest cryptocurrency with a market value of $22.88 billion.

Around November 2, 2005, Kabosu was saved from a puppy mill by Atsuko Sato, a compassionate kindergarten teacher based in Sakura, Japan. Kabosu’s distinctive puzzled expression later propelled her into internet fame as the Doge meme in 2013, bringing happiness and amusement to people worldwide.

The announcement of Kabochan’s demise has sparked heartfelt responses on social media platforms. Both the Dogecoin enthusiasts, referred to as “Shibes,” and the broader crypto community have taken to expressing their condolences.

As a Dogecoin investor and follower of the community, I’ve been deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Kabosu, our cherished friend and source of inspiration. The official X account for Dogecoin paid tribute with these heartfelt words: “Today, Kabosu peacefully left us in the loving arms of her human companion. Her influence on the world is beyond measure. A being who knew only joy and boundless love.”

The Dogecoin Foundation expressed their condolences on X by writing, “Farewell, dear Kabosu, cherished Doge. Your presence was truly remarkable.”
