Every Halo 2 Map Added to Halo Infinite Explained

As a long-time Halo enthusiast and someone who’s spent countless hours navigating the labyrinthine corridors of these iconic maps, I must say that the latest addition to the Halo Infinite multiplayer roster, the Delta Arena, is nothing short of a dream come true. The nostalgia it evokes is palpable, each remake map transporting me back to my youth, where every battle cry echoed through my headset, and every frag felt like a small victory against the world.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Halo 2, Halo Studios is incorporating a variety of Halo 2-themed elements into Halo Infinite as part of Operation: Great Journey. This update will enable players to acquire or purchase several armor sets modeled after Halo 2’s memorable characters, such as the Thremaleon armor inspired by Rtas ‘Vadum, the Helioskrill armor based on Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam, and the Master Chief Mark VI armor set. Furthermore, players can unlock or purchase the Veteran SRS99 weapon model for their Sniper Rifle, which is a replica of Halo 2’s squarer-scoped version of the weapon. Players can flaunt their new cosmetics in Halo Infinite’s newly designed multiplayer playlist, Delta Arena, which is inspired by Halo 2.

Halo Infinite’s Halo 2 Delta Arena Forerunner Maps Explained

Beaver Creek’s Remake Map Beaver Canyon

The Delta Arena playlist, titled after Installation 05 Delta Halo, showcases seven custom-made maps by the community Forgers, inspired by popular Slayer maps from Halo 2. This playlist does not include any maps designed for Big Team Battle. One of the playable maps is the compact Beaver Canyon, created by UneeQ, Mr Greencastle, Azwilko 1997, and MikRips. In this narrow canyon, players will find two small Forerunner outposts amidst a cramped space where red and blue Spartan teams clash for control of the entire waterway. Beaver Canyon is essentially a reimagining of Halo 2’s Beaver Creek, which was itself a remake of Battle Creek from Halo: Combat Evolved. This renowned canyon or creek has also been recreated in Halo: Reach as Battle Canyon, part of the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary map pack.

Lockout’s Remake Map Canopy

The map named Canopy, similar to Forerunner construction, has been crafted within Delta Arena by designers UneeQ, Mr Greencastle, MikRips, and ArtNoob. This map appears to be situated in a dense, overgrown jungle on Delta Halo, where players can engage in intense battles within this enigmatic, wind-swept stone temple that contrasts the usual polished metal found in typical Forerunner structures. Interestingly, Canopy is a revamped version of the Lockout map from Halo 2, which was later remade as Blackout in Halo 3 and as Lockdown in Halo: The Master Chief Collection’s Halo 2: Anniversary. Unlike other official versions of Lockout, which are set in a frozen environment, Canopy showcases a lush, tropical atmosphere; players in Lockdown can even attack icicles falling on their opponents when playing the original version of Lockout.

Sanctuary’s Remake Map Serenity

The tranquil map named Serenity appears to be situated on Delta Halo in the Delta Arena, with its construction bearing a strong resemblance to the ancient ruins found on Installation 05. This map was designed by the trio of Uneeq, Mr Greencastle, and MikRips. In this game, both red and blue teams will compete for dominance over a central temple, ultimately aiming to seize control of the enigmatic temples in the area.

Halo 2’s Ascension Remake Map in Halo Infinite

A new map titled Ascension has been discovered in the Delta Arena playlist, which was designed by bullet2thehead9, DISTORTED JAKAL, and MikRips. This map is set on a sandy desert plateau, where players will engage in combat from two Forerunner towers over an unidentified central structure. Notably, Ascension is a remake of the Halo 2 map with the same name, making it the only map in the playlist that retains its original designation from Halo 2. Ascension has been redesigned on two other occasions, appearing as Pinnacle in Forge World for Halo: Reach and as Zenith in Halo 2: Anniversary. As opposed to being set on Installation 05 like the original Halo 2’s Ascension, the new version in Halo Infinite may take place on Installation 07 due to the presence of structures resembling Zeta Halo-like Forerunner architecture found within the map.

Halo Infinite’s Halo 2 Delta Arena Covenant and Human Maps Explained

Warlock’s Remake Map Conjurer

Among the remaining maps at Delta Arena, two have a Covenant theme, while one is based on human infrastructure. The first of the Covenant-themed maps is Conjurer, designed by MikRips, bullet2thehead9, and DISTORTED JAKAL. This map carries a distinctly Gothic architectural style, resembling many medieval churches. Conjurer is essentially a compact temple adorned with glowing purple columns and crystals that mimic the Subanese crystals used in Needlers and Needle Rifles. Notably, Conjurer is a remodeled version of Warlock from Halo 2, which was itself a reimagining of Wizard from Halo: Combat Evolved. Apart from Warlock and Conjurer, Wizard has only been redesigned one other time, in Halo 2: Anniversary, as Warlord.

Midship’s Remake Map Inquisitor

The map “Inquisitor,” unique among those in the Delta Arena playlist, is a reimagined version of maps from previous Halo games. Originally designed by UneeQ, Mr Greencastle, MikRips, ArtNoob, and WookieCookies, this map puts players in a combat zone located inside a Covenant warship, characterized by its curved, sleek, violet architecture. The Inquisitor is essentially a redesign of the Midship map from Halo 2, which was further altered in Halo 3 to become Heretic and later transformed again in Halo 5: Guardians as Truth. While Midship and Heretic are believed to be set on the CCS-class Pious Inquisitor, Truth is thought to be located within the CCS-class Undiminished Entelechy. However, it’s yet to be determined which specific Covenant ship Inquisitor is associated with.

Turf’s Remake Map Boulevard

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that among the maps in the Delta Arena playlist, Boulevard stands out as the one that seems most reminiscent of human architecture. This urban battlefield was crafted by UneeQ, Mr Greencastle, ArtNoob, and MikRips, and it appears to be modeled after New Mombasa from Halo Infinite, given its structural similarities to the Bazaar map within that game. In Boulevard, red and blue teams will vie for control of a narrow street, making every move count in this intense, close-quarters combat. This map is actually a modernized version of Turf from Halo 2, which was only officially remade one other time – as Icebox in Halo Online. Later, Icebox was included in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. What makes Boulevard unique among the Halo 2 remakes in Delta Arena is that it’s based on a map originally found within the Killtacular Pack DLC of Halo 2.

The battlefield on Halo 2 known as Midship, which was a part of the warship Pious Inquisitor, was later acquired by human insurgent Staffan Sentzke before it was destroyed by Jackal pirates in the novel titled Halo: Mortal Dictata.
