The newly launched United Football League (UFL) is exploring the possibility of appearing in video games. Sources say they’ve begun discussions about licensing their team logos, uniforms, and overall brand for use in games.
The UFL is exploring potential partnerships in the video game world, and has been in discussions with at least two companies. TopMob has learned the identities of these companies, but is keeping them confidential to protect its sources who were not authorized to share this information.
Sources say discussions have been happening for months as the UFL explores fresh strategies to broaden its audience. The league is experiencing significant shifts, recently dismissing all eight team general managers and moving four of those teams to different cities this fall.
It’s unclear whether discussions about the UFL video game included the players themselves. If the game does get made, the players would probably need to negotiate their own separate agreement.
According to a source close to the talks, any announcement is likely still weeks away, and may not happen at all. While discussions have been going well, people familiar with the situation say a deal isn’t near completion.
When reached for this story, the UFL declined to comment citing league policy.
According to a league spokesperson, they don’t discuss internal business talks or negotiations publicly.
