Fans Know Civilization 7’s New Leader Amina Better Than They Might Think

As a long-time fan of the Civilization series, I’ve seen my fair share of iterations and updates. But when it comes to the upcoming Civilization 7, I must say, Firaxis is really shaking things up! The prospect of having a new leader and nation every era is quite intriguing, and it’s clear they’re going all out with the number of leaders we’ll see on day one.

For quite some time, every release of Civilization has generally adhered to the same blueprint, yet introduced a few novel elements and fine-tuned various mechanics. However, Civilization 7 is poised to bring about more change than its predecessors when it comes to altering the conventional design, with some significant updates and fresh elements arriving with the much-anticipated sequel due in 2025.

One notable shift in Civilization 7 lies in its approach to eras and leaders. Unlike previous games where you select a single leader and nation for the entire game, Civilization 7 will allow players to pick new leaders and nations every era. This means that the game is likely to feature numerous leaders at launch, and among those already confirmed, there’s one face that fans of Civilization 6 may recognize.

Civilization Fans Have Seen Civ 7’s Amina Before

Amina’s Role in Civilization 6 Explained

In November 2022, the Great Negotiators Pack was introduced as an expansion for the 2016 strategy game “Civilization 6” within its Leader Pass. This pack brought three new leaders to the game, one of whom was Queen Nzinga Mbande, who governed the nation of Kongo. Interestingly, Queen Nzinga Mbande had a prior role in “Civ 6” as a Great General (known as Ana Nzinga). To make room for this new character, Firaxis introduced Amina into the game. When players enable the Great Negotiators Pack, Amina will appear as a Great General in the game.

In the spirit of the Renaissance period, the formidable general character, Amina, from the game “Civilization 6,” enhances combat strength by 5 and boosts movement for all land units during the Renaissance and Industrial Eras. Alternatively, players can opt to retire Amina, earning them one Envoy token. This Envoy can be employed to cultivate alliances with City-States, making Amina an invaluable Great General for those chasing a Diplomatic or Domination victory.

Amina Is a Fully-Fledged Leader in Civilization 7

In the upcoming game “Civilization 7”, Amina will make a return with an impressive transformation. No longer simply a generic Great General, she will now be a fully-realized character, complete with a personalized model, distinctive animations, and vocal expressions. As the leader of the Aksumite Civilization in “Civilization 7”, Amina is classified as a militaristic and economically-focused figure, and her abilities reflect this notion.

1533 saw the birth of Amina, a queen and skilled warrior who held sway over the ancient kingdom of Zazzau (now in Nigeria). Through the expanding trade networks of the Sahara desert, she forged connections with neighboring realms, some of which she successfully subdued during her rule.

Known as the “Queen Warrior of Zazzau,” Amina possesses a unique leadership trait: she earns an additional Gold coin for each Resource assigned to her cities in every Age. Moreover, all of her units gain a 5-point combat boost when they occupy Plains or Desert terrains. Players facing AI-controlled Amina should consider avoiding the construction of their settlements on Plains or Desert tiles, as doing so might negatively impact Amina’s relations with them.

At the onset of the game, players can opt for Amina, a choice that represents the Antiquity Age’s Aksumite nation. By selecting Amina, gamers can subsequently pick the Songhai nation during the Exploration Age.
