Feds Bust the Mother of All Health Scams ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’ธ

Ah, the sweet taste of justice! The US government has finally cracked down on the largest health care fraud operation in history. And what a doozy it is! ๐Ÿคฏ

The DOJ has rounded up 324 defendants in an alleged $14.6 billion fraud scheme that’s as complex as a Russian novel. It involves fake billing, kickbacks, and enough opioid peddling to put a smile on the face of a pharmaceutical executive (just kidding, those guys are never happy). ๐Ÿ˜’

One of the schemes targeted vulnerable elderly patients, because who doesn’t love taking advantage of grandma? ๐Ÿ™„ Defendants allegedly applied medically unnecessary amniotic allografts to patients’ wounds and then received millions of dollars in kickbacks. Because, you know, that’s exactly what the doctor ordered (not really).

Another scheme involved 74 defendants, including 44 licensed medical professionals, who allegedly peddled 15 million pills of prescription opioids and other controlled substances. That’s a whole lotta pills, folks! ๐Ÿ’Š

And then there’s the $703 million Medicare scam, because who doesn’t love a good Medicare scam? ๐Ÿค‘ Five defendants, including two owners and executives at Pakistani marketing companies, allegedly stole identification numbers and confidential health information through theft and deceptive marketing. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you want to do with your personal info โ€“ give it to some shady marketing company. ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ

As part of the investigation, the DOJ seized $245 million worth of cash, luxury vehicles, cryptocurrency, and other assets. Because, you know, you can’t have a good health care fraud scheme without some fancy cars and crypto. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’ธ

Robert Murphy of the DEA had this to say: “Health care fraud isn’t just theft โ€“ it’s trafficking in trust. Today’s announcement shows that when doctors become drug dealers and treatment centers become profit-driven fraud rings, DEA will actโ€ฆ We’re targeting the entire ecosystem of fraud โ€“ from pill mills in Texas to kickback clinics exploiting Native communities. If you abuse your medical license to push poison or pad your pockets, we will hold you accountable.” ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ
