A well-known source has hinted that the anticipated remake of Final Fantasy 9 may not be available until as late as 2026. Back in the year 2000, I found myself immersed in a classic fantasy world with “Final Fantasy 9” on my PlayStation. Unlike the sci-fi backdrops of its predecessors, this game was a refreshing dive into the medieval roots of the franchise. The tale unfolds as I slip into the role of Zidane Tribal, a crafty thief who orchestrates a ruse to ‘kidnap’ Princess Garnet from Alexandria. It was a massive success, with over 5.5 million copies sold worldwide, and is hailed by many fans as one of the finest “Final Fantasy” games ever created.
Currently, a well-known source known as Nate the Hate has disclosed that the remake of “Final Fantasy 9” is currently being actively worked on. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that this game will hit shelves in 2025. Instead, there’s speculation that it might be launched in 2026. Whispers about a “Final Fantasy 9” remake began in 2023, but Square Enix has not yet confirmed the existence of such a project officially.
Leaker Indicates That the Final Fantasy 9 Remake Won’t Be Ready Until at Least 2026
Recently, Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy 14, spoke about the speculations surrounding a potential remake of Final Fantasy 9. During an interview, he clarified that the collaboration between the two games did not imply that Square Enix was working on a remake. He did express sympathy for fans who desire to play the remake and wished success to any developer brave enough to tackle such a massive project of updating it for contemporary audiences.
Although it seems unlikely that the “Final Fantasy 9” remake will be released anytime soon, if the rumors about its development are accurate, an unofficial project could keep fans satisfied with their “FF9” fix. Recently, the Moguri Mod began its version 9.0. The Moguri Mod is a well-known modification for “Final Fantasy 9,” which functions as a comprehensive overhaul by updating the graphics of “FF9” and adding new features such as ultra-widescreen support, higher frame rates, antialiasing, and more. This could be an excellent choice for “FF9” enthusiasts while they await the official announcement of the remake.
