Final Fantasy’s Weakest Gods Ranked: Materia to Yu Yevon

Summary

  • Some Final Fantasy gods and goddesses lack power compared to others in the series, disappointing fans.
  • Materia may be a weak god due to her lack of strength and understanding of conflicts in the game.
  • Ifrit, the god of fire, is not as challenging to defeat as other Astrals in the series.

The “Final Fantasy” series frequently portrays powerful divine entities. These gods and goddesses possess immense strength, often effortlessly overpowering their adversaries, leaving even the strongest fighters struggling to match them in combat.

While some gods and goddesses in this series may not appear as powerful as others, it’s important to note that this does not mean they are feeble. Instead, viewers might find themselves slightly underwhelmed by the level of power these divine characters exhibit during their moments of prominence.

5. Materia

A Pale Imitation Of Cosmos, Her Predecessor

In contrast to the overwhelmingly positive responses to the two games prior, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT received a mixed reaction. However, for those fans solely interested in the game’s narrative, they will find it incredibly engaging. The roles of Chaos and Cosmos have been replaced by new deities born from their will. Materia, a goddess, represents the side of good, but it doesn’t take long before characters uncover that there’s far more complexity to this battle than initially perceived.

It’s problematic that Materia seems to be largely uninformed about the origins of each Final Fantasy character, leading others to question her true intentions regarding the conflict. Despite possessing divine power, her stubbornness in ignoring rational advice and lacking the strength equivalent to Cosmos means she is a relatively ineffective deity with minimal influence.

4. Spiritus

The God Of Magic Should’ve Been More Powerful

As a dedicated fan, I stand against Materia, who is none other than Spiritus, a God of Magic with an entourage of villainous champions hailing from past Final Fantasy games. His appearance bears a striking resemblance to a divine version of Jecht, particularly his sword design. Undeniably, he’s one of the mightiest beings in the Final Fantasy realm; however, his godly strength seems insignificant when compared to the other deities that grace this epic series.

His lack of a dominant character like his predecessor, Chaos, and unfamiliarity with the real conflict within the game doesn’t aid him. It isn’t until he encounters enlightenment that he uneasily joins forces with Materia to combat Shinryu and its appearances.

3. Ifrit

This Astral Is The God Of Fire, But Isn’t All That Challenging To Defeat

In a league of their own within Final Fantasy 15 reside the Astrals, frequently manifesting figures such as Ramuh and Titan, demonstrating their colossal power. The grandeur and magnitude of these Astrals suggest effortless destruction of adversaries, leaving Ifrit’s potency appearing relatively insignificant in comparison.

Contrary to first impressions suggesting overwhelming might, players engaged in combat against this deity will eventually perceive his strength as insignificant compared to other Astrals within the series. Noctis and his companions possess sufficient power to diminish him significantly, allowing Bahamut and Shiva to deliver the decisive blows and permanently vanquish this Fire God.

2. Leviathan

The Nation Of Wutai Worships This Water Deity

In the land of Wutai, an intriguing subplot unfolds when Yuffie is part of your team. She unexpectedly takes your group’s materia and flees, causing you to pursue her, trying to comprehend why this ally chose to deceive you in such a way. Throughout these events, you learn about Yuffie’s past and the history of Wutai as your group eventually forgives her for her theft and resumes their journey together.

In the realm of Wutai, it’s clear they revere Leviathan as their Water God, a deity of great power. Yet, it seems strange that his essence can be harnessed into materia, allowing players to summon him at will. Unfortunately for Leviathan, his power doesn’t hold a candle to the summons players can obtain later in the series, diminishing his divine status within Final Fantasy 7.

1. Yu Yevon

A False God That Trapped Spira In A Cycle Of Violence But Is Ridiculously Easy To Defeat

In the scenario where Yu Yevon, the first summoner who tricked an entire nation into believing his teachings and achieved immortality, was set as the final boss, fans anticipated a challenging battle against him. However, the Fayth intervened to prevent the party from being defeated by this formidable adversary, consistently reviving them during the fight. This resulted in the combat playing out more like an epic cinematic experience rather than a traditional tough battle.

In a different scenario, if Yu Yevon had demonstrated his powers during the battle instead of relying solely on Gravity spells, which drained his life bar excessively, it would have been acceptable. However, as things stand, when players manage to defeat the Pagodas guarding this divine figure, they can simply unleash their most potent abilities to defeat this boss and break Spira’s centuries-old cycle of destruction.
