Former Gensler Aide Might Lobby for Crypto Firms

As an analyst with a background in financial regulation and policy, I find Slavkin Corzo’s move to join policy firm Mindset intriguing, especially given her previous role as a policy director at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under Chairman Gary Gensler. Her experience working for the SEC, particularly as one of the first senior staff members appointed by Gensler, gave her unique insights into the agency’s regulatory approach and priorities.

According to a report by Politico, Slavkin Corzo, who previously held the position of policy director at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has now taken up a role at policy firm Mindset.

Significantly, Paxos, a well-known stablecoin issuer in the financial services sector, and Paradigm, a tech investment firm with a research focus, are among Mindset’s esteemed clients in the cryptocurrency field.

As an analyst, I’d rephrase it this way: The Politico report indicates that it remains unclear which clients Corzo plans to represent in his upcoming lobbying efforts.

Corzo, a former labor union investment official, joined the agency back in April 2021.

It is worth noting that Corzo was one of the first senior staff members appointed by Gensler.

The SEC signaled its intention to adopt forward-thinking approaches by placing emphasis on environmental issues through Corzo’s appointment.

She ended up parting ways with the agency in May after a three-year stint at the agency.

Gensler commended Cozro for providing “solid advice” that strengthened measures for investor security.

After Corey Klemmer left the role, she was named as the new policy chief at the agency, according to U.Today’s report. It is unlikely that her appointment will lead to significant shifts in the agency’s policies towards cryptocurrencies, given her reported skepticism towards the industry.
