FragPunk’s Console Release Date Has Been Revealed

The latest hero shooter from NetEase is causing a stir on PC platforms, and console gamers can expect to play it soon.

NetEase Games’ affiliate, the Bad Guitar Studio, unveiled that the multiplayer hero shooter game, FragPunk, is set to debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on the 29th of April.

The developer has likewise disclosed the method by which console gamers will receive compensation for the delay, featuring temporary event prizes that they might have missed since the onset of Season 1.

Instead of simultaneously releasing the console versions of FragPunk along with the PC version on the planned date, unexpected difficulties during optimization and adjustment for compliance testing arose. As a result, they postponed the console launch, but promised some form of compensation to their console-playing audience.

Compensation For The Delay

The developer announces that multiple rewards, exclusive to the initial console game account registrations, are set to be handed out. These rewards, limited in time, will be distributed from the beginning of Season 1 all the way until April 29th.

Players can enjoy the game for free, but if you’ve bought the Pioneer Bundle on console, you’ll qualify for extra rewards. Good Studio will share a list of these reward items as we get closer to the game’s launch.

In the console edition, you’ll find features like cross-platform play and progression with PC, along with improvements such as improved aim assistance for maintaining a fair gaming experience among both controller and mouse-keyboard users.

In simple terms, FragPunk is a team-based (5 vs 5) shooter game featuring 13 playable characters known as Lancers. This game has an exclusive feature called shard cards, which offer teams unpredictable modifications they can implement during the gameplay. These could include making enemies have oversized heads, limiting weapon options to melee weapons, and so forth.

Despite not achieving the same massive player base as Marvel Rivals or Overwatch 2, it has still managed to thrive, consistently drawing a daily player count of anywhere from 10,000 to 20,000 users since its highly successful debut, as reported by SteamDB.

In the intensely competitive hero-shooter genre, it’s refreshing to encounter a game that dares to break the mold and strive for uniqueness. Fingers crossed, its console debut will help it carve out a stronger niche in the market.
