Game of Thrones Prequel Movie Coming Soon to Theaters, Official Title Announced

The popular fantasy world of Westeros is heading to movie theaters! Warner Bros. announced a new Game of Thrones prequel film, Aegon’s Conquest, scheduled for 2026. This movie is different from the planned spin-off series like House of the Dragon, as it’s a full-length cinematic experience.

The story of Aegon’s Conquest, a pivotal event in George RR Martin’s world, is being adapted for television. Beau Williamson, known for his work on shows like Andor and House of Cards that focus on complex characters and political maneuvering, is writing the script. While details about the cast and crew are still secret, the project is officially in development and promises a grand retelling of this significant historical event.

Aegon’s Conquest is a Pivotal Moment in Westeros

Taking place around 300 years before the story of Game of Thrones, Aegon’s Conquest tells the story of how the Targaryen family united much of Westeros through war. Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series focuses on Aegon I Targaryen and his sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys, as they use their three dragons—Vhagar, Balerion, and Meraxes—to conquer the continent.

Aegon was the first to unite six of the seven kingdoms of Westeros, achieving this in just two years, and became the first Targaryen king. He invaded Westeros from Dragonstone and, using both military strength and his dragons, conquered the land and claimed the Iron Throne, a central element in the world of Game of Thrones.

Warner Bros.’ Announcement Confirms Long-Time Rumors

At CinemaCon, Warner Bros. finally confirmed what fans have suspected for a while: a Game of Thrones movie is in development. While many initially expected the story of Aegon’s conquest to be a new HBO series, it will now be a large-scale movie, similar in scope to Dune.

Warner Bros. has announced plans to create a series based on Aegon’s Conquest, which will continue the story established in House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones. Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see this next chapter adapted for the screen.
