Gamer’s Eye-Savers: My Week with Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper Glasses

In my everyday life, I spend most of my time engaged with digital screens – whether it’s working on my computer, playing video games for both work and leisure, or watching movies and TV shows. Additionally, I often find myself scrolling aimlessly through my phone. It shouldn’t come as a shock that I experience eye strain quite frequently due to all this screen time. However, despite knowing about blue light glasses, I haven’t used them much until now. The Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper eyewear marks the first extended period I’ve worn blue light glasses, and after a week of using them, I can confidently say they offer noticeable benefits and I plan to incorporate them into my daily routine from now on.

The “Overwatch 2” GUNNAR Reaper eyeglasses arrive in a compact black pouch embellished with the Reaper’s masked visage and the GUNNAR brand logo. Housed within this pouch are the glasses themselves, accompanied by a microfiber cloth that bears the same Reaper design. The glasses boast a robust construction, finished in matte black, featuring silver Reaper insignia, and in our case, amber lenses. Sunglasses and prescription lenses are also offered as options. Both the standard amber lenses and sunglasses retail for $69; however, prescription lenses will increase the cost significantly. Despite this, the “Overwatch 2” GUNNAR Reaper glasses offer superior quality at a relatively affordable price point.

The Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper Glasses Help Block Blue Light

The main function of blue light spectacles is to alleviate eye discomfort for individuals who spend prolonged periods looking at digital screens. During my work, gaming, and TV viewing sessions lasting multiple hours, I wore these glasses. They were comfy throughout, becoming virtually unnoticeable after a while, much like any well-fitted pair of eyewear. The lenses effectively filtered out blue light, apparently lessening eye strain. As advertised, the Overwatch 2 GUNNAR Reaper glasses perform as expected and are highly recommended for those who spend extended hours in front of screens.

Users might initially find it peculiar when donning blue light glasses due to the subtle shifts in colors caused by the glasses’ tint, such as the Overwatch 2 x GUNNAR Reaper glasses which block approximately 65% of blue light. This protection can cause certain colors, particularly whites, to appear with a yellowish-orange tone. However, this is an adjustment most people find easy to make, and there’s no significant discoloration that becomes distracting or affects enjoyment. I tried the glasses while playing Overwatch 2 on a gaming monitor, Monster Hunter Wilds on a 4K TV, and watching Cobra Kai on my phone without any problems. That said, some users might find the color change unacceptable, so it’s essential to consider this before purchasing.

In an unexpected turn of events, I found great utility for my Overwatch 2 X GUNNAR Reaper glasses while enjoying the nightly routine of playing Pokemon TCG Pocket. The game lacks a dark mode feature, which makes the screen quite bright before bedtime. However, the Reaper glasses have been a lifesaver in reducing eye strain during my gaming sessions, providing relief until the developers potentially incorporate a dark mode – if that’s ever on their agenda.

Reaper Fans May Want to Consider Picking These Up

GUNNAR consistently delivers high-quality products, and their Overwatch 2 Reaper glasses are no exception. However, it’s worth noting that these glasses might not win any style awards, with the amber-tinted lenses contrasting somewhat with the frames. These aren’t glasses you’d likely want to wear casually, even if you’re a dedicated Overwatch 2 enthusiast. The sunglasses variant appears to be more stylish, as the dark lenses harmonize better with the black frames. For Reaper main fans, the Reaper insignia on the side of the frames will undoubtedly be an attractive feature, and they make an excellent gift for dedicated followers of the popular Damage hero. However, general Overwatch 2 fans might not find them as appealing.

At-home users will find the GUNNAR “Overwatch 2” Reaper eyewear quite beneficial. With most of my time spent gazing at screens, these glasses indeed provided some much-needed eye relief. Even dedicated fans of Overwatch 2’s Reaper character who might not require blue light glasses may still find them an appealing collectible item.

The Reaper glasses from Overwatch 2 in collaboration with GUNNAR have been released and can be purchased now. For this review, we at Game Rant were given a pair to try out.
