Summary
- FragPunk finally launches on Xbox and PlayStation on April 29 after technical delays.
- Console players will receive compensation and all player engagement rewards from Season 1.
- Developers plan to continue updating FragPunk with new content and support cross-progression.
Following a slight postponement from its initial release date, the game FragPunk is now all set for launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles towards the end of this month. Interestingly, even before its console versions were available, the PC debut of FragPunk saw a robust start with more than 100,000 players simultaneously enjoying the game at launch.
As a die-hard gamer eagerly waiting for the launch of FragPunk, I got some disappointing news just before the release. NetEase announced that the console versions were being delayed due to technical hiccups during optimization and adaptation. They didn’t want to compromise on quality and decided to postpone it, releasing only the PC version initially. But here’s some good news, folks! The console version is almost here now, just waiting in the wings to deliver the action-packed gaming experience we’ve all been craving.
Players of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S can now eagerly anticipate playing the game FragPunk, which is set to debut on April 29. Notably, this console launch comes less than two months after the PC version was released. Typically, being late to a live service game means missing out on a substantial amount of content, but that’s not the case with FragPunk.
The game creators have previously announced plans for compensating players, making pre-order bonuses accessible and providing $10 in currency for those who had preordered. Furthermore, console gamers will also receive all rewards earned during the first season of FragPunk.
FragPunk PS5 and Xbox Series X Release Date
- April 29, 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5
It’s evident that Bad Guitar and NetEase aim for a sustained future for the game FragPunk, hoping it will keep expanding with fresh content down the line. Since its debut, the game has already received updates, but the creators intend to continually introduce new features such as game modes, Lancers, and cards to maintain an engaging experience. Season 1 introduces some relaxed play styles, including a mode resembling infection called Outbreak. More excitingly, players can seamlessly transition between platforms thanks to cross-progression and cross-play support.
Despite all the buzz surrounding the release of FragPunk on PC, the experience hasn’t been entirely trouble-free. Initially, players were displeased due to FragPunk’s heavy emphasis on microtransactions, which not only include cosmetic items but also introduced nine distinct currencies and two separate subscription and membership systems. Although this monetization strategy is typical for free-to-play games as a means of earning revenue, players feel that FragPunk pushes the limit with the excessive amount of premium content being provided.
