Get Ready to Race: Mario Kart World May Let You Drive Courses in Reverse!

Summary

  • Mario Kart World might feature reverse courses, according to Nintendo’s latest commercial for the game in Japan.
  • The commercial shows the gameplay footage of players racing on the Mario Bros. Circuit in reverse with an adjusted mini-map.
  • Reverse courses do not mirror the entire game instance, unlike Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s mirrored tracks.

In a recent Japanese advertisement for Mario Kart World, there’s been a suggestion that players will now have the option to race through levels backwards. Unlike with previous installments like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Nintendo Switch, where mirrored versions of tracks were available straight away, in Mario Kart World, it seems that this feature may be integrated directly into the gameplay.

In simple terms, “Mario Kart World” was the first game announced alongside the Nintendo Switch 2, which was unveiled by Nintendo. The title of this game was officially given at the April 2nd Nintendo Direct, where they also showcased various content and features coming to “Mario Kart World“. Some of these features include multiple cups for players to compete in, free roaming within “Mario Kart World’s” open environment, GameChat functionality, a new Knockout Tour race type, and more. On April 17th, Nintendo held another dedicated “Mario Kart World” Direct to provide additional details about the game. While they didn’t mention it explicitly, it seems that the latest commercial for “Mario Kart World” hints at reverse courses.

In a recently released Japanese advertisement for Mario Kart World, it appears that the game will feature reversed tracks, as noticed by NintendoSoup and GaplekBehemoth on YouTube. At exactly one minute into the video, there’s gameplay footage showing a flipped version of the Mario Bros. Circuit course – the initial track in Grand Prix. To help players navigate this altered layout while racing against up to 24 human or CPU opponents simultaneously, the mini-map is also mirrored. Although Nintendo has yet to confirm the inclusion of reverse courses, the video evidence suggests that fans eager for more course diversity may have reason to be excited.

Mario Kart World Japanese Commercial Teases Reverse Courses

It’s worth mentioning that the Japanese commercial for the game didn’t show any User Interface elements from Knockout Tour, suggesting that reverse modes might be a unique feature separate from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s mirror mode. Furthermore, it seems that reverse courses in this new game don’t replicate the entire game to create a mirrored layout as the game world is seamless. Instead, extensive routes, highways, and roads within Mario Kart World can link multiple courses together, enabling players to play on courses in opposite directions based on their specific course selection in Knockout Tour and Versus mode.

At the launch of “Mario Kart World” on June 5th, players will have an opportunity to unveil the game’s adaptation of Rainbow Road by finishing all cups. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t disclosed any specifics about “Mario Kart World’s” Rainbow Road, but if a reverse variant is included, it might be one of the game’s most difficult tracks to conquer.
