Google To Provide AI Tools To US Military For Better Disaster Response

Google is collaborating with the U.S. military to offer them advanced AI technologies. This alliance aims to enhance disaster management through artificial intelligence solutions. Notably, this cooperation occurs as technology companies strive to assist various defense institutions.

Google Partners With US National Guards

The National Guard will receive AI technology from Google, as reported by The Washington Post, allowing for swifter and more productive responses to disaster photos by the tech giant.

A new team called Bellwether, part of Alphabet, Google’s holding company, has developed a technology capable of recognizing places such as locations, roads, structures, and notable infrastructure from oblique aerial photographs. By cross-referencing these images against satellite data and maps, the system can make accurate identifications.

During the upcoming wildfire season, the National Guard is currently evaluating Bellwether’s technology before putting it into use.

Google Tests AI-Generated Answers In Search Engine

At a point when Google is aggressively investing in artificial intelligence (AI), the company’s backing of the US military becomes apparent. Before this, Google initiated experiments with AI-generated search results in the United Kingdom.

Google calls this innovation “Search Generative Experience,” aiming to revolutionize the way results are delivered by the world’s leading search engine. Although Google is well-known, Microsoft’s Bing, equipped with the Copilot AI, poses a significant challenge. To stay competitive, Google intends to incorporate AI technology into its services.

Google’s AI Help to Save Time

The National Guard, responsible for managing domestic disaster response to tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and wildfires as reported by The Washington Post, initially relied on human analysts meticulously studying aerial photographs to pinpoint the exact locations of damage, including buildings and infrastructure.

However, with the new Google-backed AI help, the process would save a lot of time.
