HBO’s Harry Potter Series Renewed For Season 2 – Will Cover Chamber of Secrets

HBO has ordered a second season of its upcoming Harry Potter series, even before the first season has aired. Warner Bros. Discovery intends to adapt each book in the series as a separate season, aiming for a more accurate portrayal of the story than the films. Season two will focus on the events of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Production for the second season of HBO’s Harry Potter TV series is scheduled to begin this fall, even while the first season is still being finished. There were concerns about lengthy gaps between seasons, which is common for popular shows now, but HBO aims to keep the series moving forward. This is partly because the young actors will age, potentially outgrowing their roles as the characters from the books. Each season is expected to be even more ambitious—and expensive—than the Harry Potter films, with bigger budgets and longer shooting schedules.

The first season of the Harry Potter TV series is coming this Christmas and will mostly follow the story of the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It will center on Harry’s initial year at Hogwarts, where he makes friends with Ron and Hermione and discovers a dangerous plot connected to the villain, Lord Voldemort.

Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry, with Alastair Stout and Arabella Stantion playing Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. John Lithgow, an Emmy winner, will portray Albus Dumbledore, and Janet McTeer will play Minerva McGonagall. Paapa Essiedu will take on the role of Severus Snape.

HBO is planning a faithful, season-by-season adaptation of all seven Harry Potter books, potentially spanning a decade. While the project isn’t officially confirmed yet, HBO wants to avoid the issue other shows like Stranger Things faced – having actors age out of their teenage roles and causing delays between seasons.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (season 1) will air this Christmas 2026.
