Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs to Finally Make Your House Matter

With the success of Hogwarts Legacy, a sequel seems inevitable, and fans are already sharing their hopes for what it will include. Popular requests range from meaningful consequences for using dark magic to a more robust school experience and tougher, more diverse combat. However, the most common wish is for a more developed House system in the next game from Avalanche Software.

The way Houses worked in the original Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t bad, but it felt a bit shallow. Winning the House Cup was too easy – you automatically got it after finishing a guidebook – which made a key part of the Hogwarts experience feel undeserved. The quests specific to each House weren’t all equally good, and one House didn’t even have a dedicated companion quest. While keeping some things like House-themed clothing is a good idea, Avalanche has a lot of opportunities to improve the four Hogwarts Houses in the game and make them feel more meaningful.

Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about Hogwarts Legacy 2, and it looks like we might finally get it in 2027 or 2028! Warner Bros. has said they’re bringing out new games in their biggest franchises around then, and with the Harry Potter TV show hitting screens next year, plus Avalanche Software clearly hiring a ton of people, it feels like a pretty realistic timeframe. I’m already getting hyped!

How Hogwarts Legacy 2 Can Fix Its House Problem

  • A meaningful House Cup
  • House vs. House competitions
  • Bonus House-specific choices and details
  • House-exclusive spells
  • Romance/deeper bonds with housemates

To make choosing a Hogwarts house more impactful, the House Cup could be a challenging goal rather than something automatically earned. A points system could track player actions throughout the game. Players would earn points for positive deeds like defeating tough enemies, finishing side quests, and saving creatures, while negative actions like dying, making unkind choices, or using dark magic would deduct points. If future installments give classes more importance, attending on time or performing well in class mini-games could further affect a house’s score.

The House Cup could be earned through competitions specific to each House. While Quidditch is the most famous example of these House rivalries in the Harry Potter world, players hope it will be included in Hogwarts Legacy 2, despite the existence of Quidditch Champions. Beyond Quidditch, the game could feature other House competitions like broom races, combat tournaments, or scavenger hunts, all offering opportunities to earn or lose points. A live scoreboard could also encourage players to strategically prevent other Houses from gaining an advantage and climbing the ranks.

Okay, so beyond just the House Cup, I’m really hoping Hogwarts Legacy 2 makes my House choice actually matter in how I play. I’d love it if picking Gryffindor, for example, let me be super brave and find a shortcut in a fight, while playing as a Slytherin could let me sneak past enemies instead. It’d be awesome if each House’s Head taught you a unique spell, too, just to make each playthrough feel different. And imagine getting special relationship or romance options if you spent more time with your Housemates – that would be incredible!

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Has to Avoid Its Ravenclaw Mistake

To improve the House experience in the game, Avalanche Software should prioritize making all Houses feel equally valuable. If they bring back unique main quests for each House, it’s crucial that every player has an equally engaging experience – some players felt left out when Hufflepuff had a special quest in the first game. These exclusive quests need to be genuinely fun, or they shouldn’t be included at all. Each House also needs its own companion questline, like the ones Ravenclaw missed out on previously. By fixing these issues and making the House Cup feel more integrated into the game, choosing a House could become a meaningful decision, rather than just changing your character’s appearance and common room.
