An actor known for “How I Met Your Mother” has been confirmed as a guest star on “Dexter: Resurrection,” Showtime’s eagerly awaited new series. The upcoming “Dexter” show, which will premiere this summer on Paramount+ and Showtime, started filming in January in New York. It brings Michael C. Hall back to his famous role as Dexter Morgan, the popular serial killer who follows a moral code.
The new series titled “Dexter: Resurrection” boasts an exceptional lineup of talented actors. Uma Thurman takes on the role of Charley, while David Zayas reprises his part as Detective Angel Batista. Joining them are Jack Alcott portraying Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry Morgan, and Peter Dinklage plays Leon Prater. Additionally, Krysten Ritter has been confirmed as a guest star. Unfortunately, Jennifer Carpenter won’t be reprising her role as Debra Morgan in the upcoming “Dexter” sequel series.
With a career spanning several decades, Neil Patrick Harris is recognized mainly for his memorable roles, such as Barney Stinson on “How I Met Your Mother” and Count Olaf in “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” His breakthrough came at the age of 16 when he played Doogie Howser in “Doogie Howser, M.D.” More recently, Harris has been seen in notable TV productions like “Uncoupled,” “Doctor Who,” and “How I Met Your Father.” Although the specifics of his role are yet to be revealed, Variety reports that he will appear as a character named Lowell in the upcoming “Dexter” series.
Dexter: Resurrection Sees Both New and Returning Characters
Starting in 2006, the “Dexter” series unfolded, featuring Michael C. Hall portraying Dexter Morgan, a character who combined roles as a blood splatter analyst for Miami Metro Police with that of a secretive vigilante serial killer. The show ran until 2013 and earned critical acclaim, winning several prestigious awards such as Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In the upcoming sequel, Clyde Phillips, a veteran from the original “Dexter” team, takes on the role of executive producer and showrunner. Alongside him are executive producers Michael C. Hall, Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Marcos Siega will serve as the producing director, while Monica Raymund is set to direct four episodes, with Siega handling six. The production companies involved are Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios, and Paramount Global Content Distribution handles distribution.
“Dexter: Resurrection” is one of several offshoots that broaden the scope of the “Dexter” universe. Unlike “Dexter: Original Sin“, which delved into a young Dexter’s story, played by Patrick Gibson, as he evolved into a serial killer, the latter being a prequel series where Michael C. Hall provided voiceover for Dexter’s inner thoughts, it stands apart. The franchise also debuted “Dexter: New Blood“, which aired from November 2021 to January 2022.”
