How Star Wars Outlaws Mos Eisley Compares to the Original

As a lifelong Star Wars enthusiast who has spent countless hours immersed in the galaxy far, far away, I must say that Massive Entertainment truly outdid themselves with their recreation of Mos Eisley Spaceport in Star Wars Outlaws. Having grown up on the original trilogy and revisiting Tatooine’s infamous spaceport through various movies and TV shows, it was a sheer delight to step foot into this wretched hive of scum and villainy once more.

The spaceport at Mos Eisley on Tatooine, first introduced in “A New Hope,” is one of the most famous locations in the Star Wars universe, earning this reputation after Obi-Wan Kenobi referred to it as a “den of scum and villainy.” This notoriety makes it an essential inclusion in Massive Entertainment’s game Star Wars Outlaws, given that the story takes place between “Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”

Ever since Mos Eisley first appeared in “A New Hope,” it has been featured in multiple other “Star Wars” movies and series. However, the portrayal of Mos Eisley in “A New Hope” remains the most comprehensive, making it the ideal reference when evaluating the accuracy of “Star Wars Outlaws'” version of the iconic spaceport. Luckily, comparisons can be easily made as “Star Wars Outlaws'” Mos Eisley is almost a carbon copy of the original, with some enhancements to boost gameplay.

How Star Wars Outlaws‘ Mos Eisley Stacks Up Against the Original

Star Wars Outlaws’ Mos Eisley Is a Nearly 1:1 Recreation of What Is Shown in A New Hope

In the game Star Wars Outlaws, longtime fans of the Star Wars franchise should find Mos Eisley remarkably familiar. Iconic landmarks such as the wrecked Dowager Queen, the Ubrikkian Trade Tower, and Chalmun’s Cantina are all present in this version of Mos Eisley. Notably, the cantina closely resembles its movie counterpart, providing a sense of continuity for fans. The town is also teeming with creatures like Dewbacks, Banthas, and Scurriers, much like it was depicted in A New Hope.

Star Wars Outlaws’ Mos Eisley Is Much Larger and Denser Than What Has Been Shown in the Movies

In “Star Wars Outlaws,” the spaceport called Mos Eisley is significantly bigger and more crowded compared to its depiction in “A New Hope.” This expansion makes sense because the entire extent of Mos Eisley was not shown in “A New Hope,” and if the game developers, Massive, had restricted players’ exploration to just what’s in the movie, it wouldn’t be as engaging. However, even if you thought Mos Eisley looked spacious in the film, you’ll find it feels even more expansive in “Star Wars Outlaws.”

In the game “Star Wars Outlaws“, Mos Eisley from the movies serves as a foundation, offering expansive areas for players to traverse. The game’s rendition of Mos Eisley is filled with labyrinthine corridors that branch out to lively spots such as the Bazaar and Gambler’s District, where players can gather various collectibles and interact with non-player characters. However, despite the vastness of “Star Wars Outlaws‘” Mos Eisley, certain routes further into the spaceport are often obstructed by wrecked Landspeeders and Stormtrooper patrols.

In the world of Star Wars Outlaws, Mos Eisley’s streets appear less congested than they seem in the movie. This is because Luke, Obi-Wan, and their droids can easily navigate through using a Landspeeder, which seems improbable in the game. However, it seems this was intentionally designed to classify Mos Eisley as a “Speeder Restricted Area.” Despite these limitations, Star Wars Outlaws masterfully recreates this iconic location, adding another layer of authenticity to its Star Wars experience.
