Alrighty folks, let me walk you through this turtle-bashing escapade with the flair of someone who’s been through a few (thousand) video game battles.

After navigating oceans and reuniting the islands of Concordia, you’ve built four lighthouses along the way, as well as ventured through a castle belonging to Bowser. Now it’s time for you to defeat Zokket and his Extension Corps.

No Thanks, Keep Reading

Having reached the pinnacle of the soaring Fortress Zokket, there arises a minor hitch: the Extension Corps have abducted Bowser Jr.! Just as you’re about to engage in a confrontation, King Koopa bursts in, determined to rescue his son. Unfortunately, he takes a hit from the Glohmatic Quad-Ray instead.

To defeat Zokket, first, you must overcome Glohm Bowser in a boss battle, effectively breaking the mind control over him.

Preparing For The Fight

At the finale of Fortress Zokket, you’ll encounter a foreboding pairing: save and recovery blocks, right before engaging the boss. Make sure to carefully review your inventory and select appropriate Battle Plugs for the upcoming battle.

Be certain that your character has progressed sufficiently as well. The Combat Journal advises reaching level 35 prior to engaging in this battle, and that seems like sound advice indeed.

For avid side quest enthusiasts, it shouldn’t be difficult to attain level 35 at this stage – playing all available content ensures you consistently surpass the suggested level during the Main Storyline.

Countering the Glohm Status Effect

Glohm Bowser is the first enemy to utilize the new status effect of Brothership effectively. If one of your brothers gets “Glohmed”, you will find yourself unable to execute Bros. Attacks or Luigi Logic. Additionally, your standard attacks will lose their strength without your brother’s assistance.

The power of Glohm can be offset with Battle Plugs.

Battle PlugDescription
Auto AmpberryAutomatically use an Ampberry at the start of your turn to remove the Glohm status effect from either Bro.
Boomerang ItemsAfter you use an item, it returns to your inventory.
Auto HerbAutomatically use a Refreshing Herb at the start of your turn to remove a status effect. Only has a 50% chance of removing Glohm.

Using Glohm Buster battle accessories before engaging in the Glohm Bowser fight allows for immediate healing, bypassing the need to spend a turn on recovery items. The Auto Heal feature of the Battle Plug series still activates, regardless of your current Glohm state.

As Ampberries aren’t available for purchase at regular stores, you can speak with Dr. Vulko on Shipshape Island to obtain a supply instead. The Boomerang Items feature proves particularly useful in such situations, ensuring your stock never runs out!

Phase One

In the rematch against Glohm Bowser, you’ll notice some fresh strategies mixed with tactics from your initial encounter on Wayaway Island. Luckily, unlike before, he won’t have an army of minions backing him up this time!

As the Koopa King, who appears to be under some sort of mind control, hovers in the air, remember to dodge Hammer and Bros. attacks since they’re designed for enemies standing on the ground. When you manage to deal some damage, Good Bowser will create a purple mark on the ground beneath him.

In this area lies a type of growth called Glohm, which expands approximately every several game rounds. Once the Glohm encroaches upon Mario and Luigi, you’ll incur damage at the beginning of each round and have a possibility of being afflicted by Glohming.

As a gamer, I consistently dodge and counter Bowser with repeated jump attacks to stun him mid-air, halting Glohm’s advance. This tactic also leaves Bowser susceptible to Luigi’s strategic maneuvers, making it easier for me to defeat the boss.

Luigi Logic

In this boss battle, the Luigi Logic mini-game becomes active when a ship filled with Shy Guys appears overhead. This ship will fire cannonballs at you, but luckily, you have the ability to take control of it thanks to Luigi Logic.

If Glohm Bowser isn’t stunned, he’ll pull the airship back down to avoid the damaging minigame. Ensure he’s safely on the ground!

While flying up there, you engage in a short-lived shooter mini-game. A solitary hit will cause your airship to plummet, so evade Glohm Bowser’s onslaught and continue firing back with your cannon.

Unlike traditional boss battles, Luigi Logic doesn’t conclude with an unconscious Glohm Bowser. Instead, upon inflicting sufficient damage to initiate Phase Two, the minigame concludes on its own, resulting in Glohm Bowser landing.

Phase Two

During Phase Two, there are no airships or Luigi’s complex logic at play. Instead, it’s just Mario and Luigi engaging in their classic turtle-bashing antics, as we remember from the old times.

Similar to the past battle on Wayaway Island, as Glohm Bowser’s health decreases, his attacks become stronger and more prolonged. Although the dodge and counter quick-time events in Brothership aren’t as challenging as Soulsbourne bosses, stay vigilant until it’s your turn again.

The optimal method for inflicting damage on Glohm Bowser is through the use of Brotherly Attacks, specifically Mario’s “Hatch Me If You Can” and Luigi’s “Jump Helmet.” These moves are particularly effective at dishing out a significant amount of damage to a single airborne target. However, Bomb Derby and Yoo Hoo Cannon deal more damage, but only if you can consistently achieve an Excellent attack.

If you find yourself in a tough situation with the Bros. Attack, don’t hesitate to use the Auto EXCELLENT boost! When paired with Bros. Boost, it’s an effective method for dealing consistent damage. Plus, using Auto EXCELLENT contributes to fulfilling the requirements for the Bros. Attack challenge.

During Luigi’s turn in the game, it’s essential to switch back to defensive Battle Plugs before Bowser’s attack sequence continues, as I’ve discovered that Notdroppin and Auto 1-Up can be real lifesavers, particularly when you’re close to defeating a boss.
