How to Complete Ronald’s Request in Crimson Desert

In the game Crimson Desert, ‘Ronald’s Request’ is a task for the Greymanes faction. Players need to collect five pieces of timber and deliver them to a character named Ronald. However, many players have reported that Ronald often disappears, making it impossible to start or complete the quest.

This isn’t an error; it’s how the game is designed to work. It happens when you send Ronald on a task that takes him away from the Howling Hill camp. To fix it, you can either cancel the task or simply let Ronald finish it and return by himself.

How to Unlock Ronald’s Request in Crimson Desert

You can start the Ronald’s Request quest once you’ve advanced the main story to Chapter 4 and rescued Yann from prison by finishing the Disturbance in the Arena mission. It becomes available after completing the Kilnden Workshop main mission.

Okay, so to kick off this quest, you gotta find Ronald. He’s hanging around the entrance to Howling Hill camp, pretty close to Ross, who handles all the dispatch stuff.

How to Cut Timber

Ronald will ask players to chop down trees for Timber and bring it back to his camp. The easiest way to do this is with a Logging Axe, which is specifically designed for cutting down trees. You can find Logging Axes while exploring the world or purchase them from most shops.

  1. Use the D-Pad Left (Controller) or F2 (PC) weapons radial menu.
  2. Select the Logging Axe from the alternate weapon selector and equip it using R1 (Controller) or Q (PC).
  3. Approach any tree and aim the Logging Axe at the tree trunk using L1 (Controller) or CTRL (PC).
  4. Use R1 (Controller) or LMB (PC) to cut down the tree trunk.
  5. Once the tree trunk splits into two or three smaller trunks, use R2 (Controller) or RMB (PC) to slam down the Logging Axe on the horizontal logs, converting them into Timber and Fine Timber.

After collecting 5 Timber, go back to Ronald at the Howling Hill camp to complete the task. You’ll receive a Medium Bag as a reward, giving you 3 extra spaces to carry items.

For Ronald’s Request, you need regular Timber, not Fine Timber. Keep the Fine Timber you have, though – you’ll need it to finish Turnali’s Request in Hernand.

If you don’t have a Logging Axe or don’t want to use one, you can quickly chop down trees using the Turning Slash skill. On a PC, this is done by pressing both the left and right mouse buttons at the same time (LMB + RMB). On a controller, press R1 and R2 simultaneously.

Where is Ronald in Crimson Desert?

Ronald Location

Okay, so I was trying to finish Ronald’s Request, had all five pieces of timber, but when I got to the Howling Hill camp where the quest marker was, Ronald was just…gone! It’s super frustrating when the game tells you where to go, but the NPC isn’t actually there.

This happens when players send Ronald on a team mission. You can find out which mission he’s on by speaking with Ross, the Dispatch Coordinator. Choose the “Mission Dispatch” option, and look for the missions currently shown in gold.

You can get Ronald back to camp in one of two ways: let him finish his current mission, or cancel the mission right away. You can see how much longer the mission will take on the overview screen. If you cancel, you’ll get your resources back, so there’s no penalty – you only lose the time you’ve already spent.

Certain assignments, such as Estate Security, are continuous, meaning personnel finish one shift and another takes over. If Ronald is currently on one of these ongoing assignments, you’ll need to manually end his mission to bring him back.
