However, Monster Hunter Wilds invites you to appreciate the lesser-known creatures inhabiting the Forbidden Lands. There’s an abundance of endemic life lurking in every hidden corner, waiting to be discovered.

Now, following our series of investigations, we’ve arrived at the concluding Research Document. Samin assures us this is truly the last one, and not another false alarm. The level of challenge has varied across these adventures, with certain beings proving more elusive than others. However, he seems to have saved the toughest for the finale.

How To Start Samin’s Special Research Report

For the last and final time, please make your way to Base camp situated in the Windward Plains to meet Dareel and Samin inside their large research tent. Since all other Research Reports have been completed, including one by Dareel on finding a Gillopod, you can converse with Samin. Where To Find A Sandstar

The Sandstar can only be found in the Windward Plains during the night hours. Therefore, you should begin your search as soon as darkness falls, since it will disappear once daylight breaks and hide away again.

In both Base Camp and Pop-Up Camp settings, you have the ability to alter the simulated time of day and weather conditions within your tent.

Samin asserts that the subject in question swiftly traverses the sand, thereby limiting our search to the desert region of the Windward Plains. More specifically, this includes Areas 11, 13, and 15. Additionally, it exhibits a luminescent quality, making it more visible during nighttime travels. Its distinctive blue color creates a striking contrast with the sandy mounds it dashes across at high speed.

In the specific weather condition you mentioned, it would be best to look for the Sandstar at night since the desert becomes darker then, causing the Sandstar’s glow to shine brighter and more distinctly.

A useful strategy we discovered for triggering Sandstar spawns is to head straight towards Rey Dau’s nest and ascend the area to the left where there are Wedge Beetles. After climbing, head back out into the desert. This approach seems to enhance the likelihood of them appearing. Keep in mind that they can show up anywhere across the vast desert, so make sure to circle around thoroughly to locate them.

Uncovering Sandstars may seem simple at first, but that’s merely the beginning of your journey. The infrequent nature in which they appear makes locating them quite difficult. And if you think finding them is tough, just wait until you try to catch them – that’s a whole new level of challenge!

How To Catch A Sandstar

In my own experience, as Samin cautioned me, capturing a Sandstar isn’t an easy feat. It wasn’t just idle talk from him. The Sandstar is not only incredibly swift, but it’s also surprisingly perceptive. No matter what I try to do, it always seems to sense my presence – whether I’m walking at a snail’s pace or fully camouflaged with the Ghillie Mantle. I’ve found that I can neither outrun nor escape its keen senses.

If you want to catch it, you can’t chase it on your Seikret because it will burrow into the ground and hide. Instead, you should approach it like catching the Balahara in this desert – by taking out its hearing. You can do this using Sonic Bombs or Shrieker Pods dropped from Baunos aircraft above.

Make sure you don’t aim the Shrieker Pod or Sonic Bomb straight at the Sandstar, as doing so could potentially destroy it.

If you activate either the Shrieker Pod or Sonic Bomb at a suitable distance, the Sandstar will topple over and writhe on the ground. Seize this chance to move swiftly and catch them in the Capture Net before they scurry away. Time is of the essence, so act quickly while they’re incapacitated as they’ll burrow back into the earth once their hearing recovers.
