Shapeshifting
As a seasoned warrior of the digital battlefield, I’ve found myself often drawn to the cunning and mischievous God of Mischief, Loki. Now, let me tell you, there’s more to this trickster than meets the eye!
It’s not something I would have anticipated – the Trickster deity turning out to be a healer in Marvel Rivals. However, after trying out his abilities and understanding his gameplay, it seems rather predictable now.
As a Masterful Trickster in strategy, Loki excels at creating illusions of himself, providing vital aid to human companions. His complex tactics make him one of the most challenging characters to control effectively.
In this guide, we shall bestow upon thee wisdom in utilizing the power of the new king of Asgard.
Loki Abilities
Although Loki may not have top-notch agility, he excels in deception and manipulating his position by utilizing his Illusions.
Maintain an element of uncertainty, since the uniqueness of your actions contrasts with the immobility of your copies.
Ability | Description |
---|---|
Mystical Missile | Basic Attack. Fire green missiles that heal allies or deal splash damage to enemies. Each blast heals 40 health and deals 30 damage. |
God of Mischief | Ultimate ability. Shapeshift into a target ally or enemy hero and use all their abilities except for Team-Up Abilities. While transformed, Loki’s Ultimate ability will be fully charged. Casting a transformation-type Ultimate ability will extend the duration of Loki’s transformation of that Hero. Lasts 15 seconds. |
Regeneration Domain | Use Rune Stones to create a magical field that provides allies Healing and converts incoming damage into further healing, appearing near any Doppelganger you’ve left on the battlefield. Rune stones disappear if destroyed or its duration has expired (5 seconds). Allies inside the field will receive healing of 100 health per second, converting 30% of damage taken into more healing. |
Doppelganger | Project an Illusion at any location (30m max distance) that can cast Loki’s basic and melee attacks, and create healing Rune Stones. Two charges maximum, each taking 12 seconds to recharge. |
Devious Exchange | Swap with the selected Illusion. 30m range with a cooldown of 15 seconds. |
Backstab | Stab enemies with a dagger. 30 base damage; backstab damage adds 15 to a total of 45 per backstab. |
Deception | Loki leaves an Illusion in his place and becomes invisible while continuously healing himself (20 health per second). This invisibility lasts indefinitely, but any actions other than Devious exchange, reloading, or casting Doppelganger will render him visible. Bumping into enemies and taking damage can also break him out of invisibility. |
Loki Offensive Strategies
With my abilities fully utilized, Loki can dish out quite a significant amount of damage and healing, overwhelming you in numbers.
Place illusions strategically, as people often overlook them.
- Maximize damage and healing by positioning clones in optimal areas like vantage points. With three Loki’s firing their missiles, you can do a lot of damage and healing just by firing your scepter. Three direct hits are enough to eliminate a squishy opponent.
- Situations where backstabbing is possible are rare, but when the opportunity presents itself, you should melee any opponent brave enough to show their backs to you.
- Backstabbing opportunities are rare, so take them when you can get them. This was one of the only times I’ve ever been able to land a backstab.
- During a team fight, try to aim basic attacks into the midst of the fight so that you can damage AND heal at the same time. Each missile has a blast radius, and if you position your Illusions correctly, you will never lose sight of your allies and enemies.
- When possible, try placing an Illusion in the enemy’s backline, making sure that they don’t grow too comfortable. You have a decent range of 30m to cast your Illusions, so don’t be shy.
Loki Defensive Strategies
As a cunning gamer, my survival hinges on knowing the game map like the back of my hand and skillfully managing my illusions.
Much like in offensive strategies, cast Illusions liberally to overwhelm your enemies’ senses.
- Your Illusions are the perfect distraction for your enemies, as people cannot resist attacking things with health bars.
- If you feel confident enough, use your Illusions to lure enemies away from the objective. Place an Illusion and make yourself a target for your enemies. Once you’ve led them away, switch places with your clone. You don’t need a line of sight to use that ability.
- A good rule of thumb for placing your Illusions is to position them away from each other and you so that your enemy cannot eliminate all of you with a single attack. Vantage points and corners are highly recommended.
- Try to have at least one Illusion on the objective. Runestones heal rather quickly and even quicker when allies are taking damage. Use them to ensure everybody’s survival.
- Your invisibility is indefinite, and in any situation where your teammates aren’t around or if the fight hasn’t started yet, you can use it to scout out the area and tag enemies for your teammates.
- Make sure not to panic and cast invisibility when you take damage. While it can remove aggro, your enemies aren’t stupid. Cast it when you’re sure you won’t take damage so that you can make a clean getaway.
Loki Team-Up Abilities
Team-Up Ability | Heroes Needed | Description |
---|---|---|
Laufeyson Reborn | Hela | When Hela lands a final hit in defeating an enemy, she can instantly resurrect Loki and Thor in the respawn phase, or grant them Bonus Health (50 health) if they are still alive. |
Thor and/or Loki |
So, if Hela manages to deal a decisive strike during the respawn interval, she has the power to resurrect both you and Thor.
With this ability’s bonus health capped at 100, a powerful Hela could potentially sustain both you and Thor, preventing their demise.
Laufeyson Reborn is an ability that relies heavily on how accurately Hela aims, making its effectiveness contingent upon her shooting skills.
Loki Counters & How To Deal With Them
Loki relies primarily on his illusions and healing abilities for defense, and his offensive capabilities are limited when it comes to keeping himself alive for a long time.
He performs exceptionally well within a moderate range, but faces challenges when operating beyond that. Opponents, whether they are close combat or long-range specialists, can quickly surprise and defeat him.
- Vanguards
- Doctor Strange
- Venom
- Duelist
- Namor
- Iron Fist
- Spider-Man
Octopus towers belonging to Namor pose a direct threat to Loki, whereas close combat heroes such as Iron Fist and Spider-Man can zero in on him and swiftly defeat him with relative ease.
As Loki, utilize your intelligence and skillfully employ your illusions. If a close-combat hero is hot on your heels, escape to a remote illusion and become invisible, before rejoining your team later.
Best Team Comps With Loki
Loki works well with many heroes, as he’s capable of revitalizing diving teammates by creating a decoy close to them or by providing direct healing from a distance within the backlines.
- Vanguard
- Doctor Strange
- Peni Parker
- Duelist
- Hela
- Namor
- Strategist
- Jeff
- Luna
In situations requiring defense of an objective, Loki performs optimally alongside Peni and Namor. They strategically establish choke points, fortifying the area with your turrets and illusions, making it extremely difficult for enemies to advance.
An exceptional player of Hela can significantly boost the performance of both Lokis and Thors, creating an invincible trio from Asgard.
How To Master Shapeshifting
During the thick of combat, your Ultimate skill can significantly shift the course of the fight, since it instantly refills your Ultimate gauge with maximum energy upon transformation.
Before we get to the list of ideal Ultimates that Loki can steal, remember to change your Hero settings on your Keyboard tab. Toggle “Double Confirmation for God of Mischief” to ensure that you shapeshift into the correct character in the heat of battle.
The best rule of thumb in picking a character to shapeshift into is their Ultimates. Try to target single-use Ultimates that can easily disrupt the enemy team and aren’t too hard to use.
- Vanguard
- Venom’s “Feast of the Abyss” can give you tons of bonus health on top of powerful tentacle strikes.
- Doctor Strange’s “Eye of Agamotto” can disrupt the battle by stunning everybody around you for a short period.
- Duelists
- Punisher’s “Final Judgment” is a top pick, as he can deal massive damage before needing to change back.
- Iron Man’s “Invincible Pulse Cannon” deals extremely high burst damage and can catch your enemies off guard.
- Psylocke’s “Dance of the Butterfly” makes her practically invulnerable while dealing heavy melee damage in a large area.
- Star-Lord’s “Galactic Legend” gives him aimbot and free flight, allowing you to take out any vulnerable healers.
- Strategist
- Jeff the Land Shark’s “It’s Jeff!” can easily take out an entire team if they are bunched up.
- Luna Snow’s “Fate of Both Worlds” allows you to keep your teammates alive for a final push.
One effective method for rephrasing in a natural and easy-to-understand manner would be: Mastering Loki requires figuring out the right way to play each character, particularly those you wish to transform, as well as understanding when and how to make optimal use of their final skills.
