The SOS Flare system in Monster Hunter Wilds serves as an easy-to-use distress signal, allowing players to call for assistance when they find themselves in difficulty during a hunting expedition.
Even seasoned warriors may struggle to finish a battle alone, but don’t worry, there’s an SOS function that lets you summon reinforcements if you find yourself in a tight spot. Let’s explore the process for inviting your comrades to help you escape from danger.
How to use SOS in Monster Hunter Wilds
During any battle, you can activate the SOS Flare at any time by pressing the LB/L1 button. After initiating the battle, this action will open a circular menu on your screen. You can then select the SOS Flare option from this menu by moving your control stick (LS). The game will prompt for confirmation before your character launches the flare to request assistance.
In this game, you have the freedom to personalize how your radial wheel looks. By default, it’s set in the LS direction when you first start playing.
How do SOS Flares work in Monster Hunter Wilds
After igniting the flare, as many as three other players can join the quest. To become part of it, they should accept your call for assistance. Similarly, you too can assist another player by accepting their request. However, if your group is already at maximum capacity (four members), you won’t be able to fire a flare. For someone else to join, at least one member from your current party needs to exit or log out of the game.
While you wait for another human player to join, you’ll have AI-assisted hunters standing by to support you. These temporary helpers will depart when human players arrive to lend a hand.
Be aware that when you ignite a flare, your character will momentarily lose control, making them vulnerable to harm. It’s advisable to keep a safe distance from enemies before deciding to launch the flare. Don’t forget to review our guide covering all status effects and how they can impact you throughout battle.
