Among the popular trends in the world of crypto, artificial intelligence stands out and has already been integrated into several cryptographic projects such as Bittensor, Near, AR, and Render – just to name a few prominent examples.

After witnessing the achievement of AI Agents, which are intelligent bots capable of creating cryptocurrencies and engaging on social media platforms like GOAT and Fartcoin, even contributing to Virtuals Protocol with their use in gaming for controlling NPCs, we now delve into a burgeoning technology known as Trusted Execution Environments (TEE).
As a researcher, I’m developing true-blue digital “vaults” that are seamlessly integrated into the hardware of devices such as smartphones or PCs. This secure and isolated environment allows sensitive data to be processed without the risk of exposure or compromise, even if a virus takes over the operating system.
Function like a black box: data goes in and is processed, but only the result comes out, keeping the content secure. This feature ensures that data remains safe even during an attack, isolating sensitive operations and ensuring that processes are executed correctly.
Currently, there are two cryptos that already employ this technology and they are the Phala Network ($PHALA) and Marlin ($POND). Let’s take a closer look at them.

Additionally, off-chain processing reduces the load on the main blockchain, improving the system’s efficiency. This makes Phala Network ideal for applications such as medical data analysis, where privacy is crucial, or financial solutions requiring secure information management.
It’s not just about data protection. Rather, it aims to become a decentralized alternative to traditional cloud computing services, offering an ecosystem where privacy and decentralization are the main focuses. Trusted Execution Environments (TEE) allow for executing AI models on sensitive data without disclosure, thus protecting both the data and the valuable intellectual property represented by the models themselves.
Phala provides a decentralized environment to manage AI algorithms, thus eliminating the need to rely on centralized providers such as Google or Amazon. This feature opens up innovative solutions in sectors like healthcare, where medical data can be analyzed ensuring patient privacy, and finance, where AI models can work with financial data without risk of exposure.
Native token, $PHA, is indeed at the heart of its economy: it’s used to pay for private computing services and rewards those who provide it. As of now, it’s also available on Binance as it originated in 2020 and has evolved over time, changing its business model.
This year, the appreciation has been 200%, but it’s still far from its historical highs and could soar if there’s a Bull Run. However, in case of market downturn, it might also experience substantial losses, given the profits already made.

This approach not only maintains data integrity but also enhances speed. When calculations are executed off-chain, the processed data is reintroduced into the blockchain in a synthesized and verifiable form, often as a single encrypted input or output. This approach reduces the number of transactions that need validation, thereby decreasing processing times. As an analyst, I can confidently say this methodology significantly improves efficiency and scalability within our system.
This year, Marlin’s native token, $POND, didn’t achieve the same level of success as $PHA, with only a 27% appreciation. This unremarkable performance makes $POND quite attractive should a new Bull Run occur.
In this case as well, the current exchange rate for POND is significantly lower compared to its historical highs, currently being traded at just 0.019 dollars.

The TEE technology is still in its infancy, particularly in the blockchain realm and it also has negative aspects. Processors can be susceptible to hardware attacks or compromised through firmware.
