Summary
- Icarus is set to receive significant DLC with three initial hunts and additional content.
- The Great Hunts DLC will introduce new bosses and legendary weapons for players.
- The DLC was announced by Dean Hall and doesn’t have a specific launch date but will arrive “soon.”
The maker behind both “DayZ” and “Icarus” has unveiled an enormous expansion pack for the latter game, brimming with fresh content. Debuted in 2021 to predominantly favorable responses, “Icarus” is renowned for its grueling gameplay and merciless environments. Following its release, this survival horror game has undergone multiple updates to rectify a myriad of issues that had been causing problems within the game. Despite these technical hiccups, “Icarus” stands as an impressive spiritual successor to the post-apocalyptic zombie mayhem of “DayZ” for many enthusiasts.
Icarus, an impressive project, is the creation of RocketWerkz, a game development studio established by Dean Hall, who previously excelled as a game designer at Bohemia Interactive. While still employed at Bohemia, Hall independently developed DayZ as a modification for ARMA 2. The mod’s immense popularity led to Hall being hired by Bohemia to head the development of a standalone version of DayZ. After departing from Bohemia in 2014, Dean Hall founded RocketWerkz and has since released games such as Out of Ammo and Stationeers, with Icarus being the studio’s most significant and high-profile undertaking to date.
From my gaming perspective, I’m stoked about what Icarus dropped on Twitter! They’re cooking up a fresh DLC named “Icarus: Great Hunts”. Kicking things off are three initial quests: Quarrite on Olympus, Gargantuan on Styx, and Rimetusk on Prometheus. More hunts are in the pipeline later on. Completing these will unleash some bosses with unique powers. The dev team made it clear that this DLC isn’t mandatory, and there’ll be plenty of base game updates coming for free. No solid release date yet, but we can expect to dive into the expansion soon!
Icarus Will Soon Get a Major Expansion Called the Great Hunts
In the gaming world, Icarus has gained a reputation for being exceptionally tough, leading developers to modify its difficulty level to address complaints about characters perishing too frequently and becoming permanently lost due to permanent death. To alleviate these issues, Icarus introduced an insurance feature in 2022, enabling players to revive at the space station upon permadeath, as long as they were participating in an insured mission. Although DayZ is also recognized as a difficult game, it doesn’t present the same level of challenge as Icarus.
In simple terms, DayZ is often praised for being one of the top loot survival games due to its realistic elements like bleeding, hunger, and disease, which players experience while scavenging in a dangerous, zombie-filled world in search of supplies. On the other hand, Icarus adopts many of DayZ‘s survival mechanics such as resource gathering and permadeath risks, but it places its gameplay on an extraterrestrial planet instead of Earth.
Icarus, unlike DayZ, doesn’t encompass a colossal open-world setting. Instead of boasting an extensive world as DayZ does, Icarus presents substantial maps tailored for missions, offering a more organized gaming experience. Both games have cultivated substantial fan bases, and for the enthusiasts of Icarus, an exciting DLC expansion is now under development.
