Okay, horror fans, get ready! The “Insidious” franchise is returning, and I got a first look at the trailer at CinemaCon. This is the sixth installment, and it’s called “Insidious: Out of the Further.” Created by the team behind the original – James Wan and Leigh Whannell – it looks like we’re diving back into that terrifying world ‘The Further’ once again. Consider me intrigued… and a little scared!
The new installment of the series promises a fresh direction, with Lin Shaye appearing to have a significantly larger role than in the previous film, The Red Door. This is sure to thrill fans of the Insidious franchise.
Insidious 6 Is Bringing Demons Into the Real World
Okay, so the new Insidious trailer just dropped, and I have thoughts. It introduces us to Gemma, played by Amelia Eve, and right away, the fact that she’s a dentist sets off alarm bells – because, let’s be real, dentists in horror movies never have a good time. We quickly get into some seriously creepy, tooth-related scares before Gemma gets pulled into The Further, that familiar ghostly realm. The setup is classic haunted house: Gemma’s a single mom, and what she initially dismisses as nightmares start feeling all too real, forcing her to seek help. Interestingly, the person she turns to seems to be channeling the spirit of Elise Rainier, which is a nice touch. And yes, expect plenty of those signature Insidious jump scares and spooky creatures – they definitely delivered on that front in the trailer.
Gemma shares a psychic ability with Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and his son, allowing her to travel between dimensions. However, unlike them, she can also pull demons into our world. It will be fascinating to see how the new film, Out of the Further, explores this, particularly given how the distinctive, dark visuals of ‘The Further’ have made the Insidious movies stand out within the haunted house genre. The trailer shows both familiar demons – like the Lipstick Demon, the Weezing Demon, and the Doll Girl – alongside entirely new and frightening creatures.
Insidious Is A Modern Horror Juggernaut
Despite mixed reviews from critics, the Insidious franchise has been a huge financial success, earning over $700 million from its five movies. The latest installment, 2023’s The Red Door, was the most popular yet, bringing in over $189 million worldwide and appearing to conclude the story of the Lambert family.
This month marks the 15th anniversary of the original Insidious film. Director James Wan and writer Leigh Whannell breathed new life into haunted house stories with a frightening and emotionally resonant story about a family. The new film, Insidious: Out of the Further, aims to capture that same terrifying energy. Star Eve already proved her ability to scare audiences in The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Blumhouse and Sony believe she’s perfect for the lead role. The sequel, arriving in theaters worldwide on August 21, 2026, also stars returning cast member Lin Shaye, along with Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Sam Spruell, and Laura Gordon. Jacob Chase wrote and directed this latest chilling chapter.
