- Nobitex just got hit for $81 million. I mean, who needs that kind of money anyway? Right? 🙄
- An Israeli hacker group is taking credit. Because, of course, they are. What a surprise! 😏
So, Iran’s biggest crypto exchange, Nobitex, just had a little “oopsie” involving over $81 million. You know, just a casual day in the crypto world. 💸
ZachXBT Digs Into the Nobitex Fiasco
On-chain analyst ZachXBT was the first to notice something fishy on the Tron [TRX] network. Turns out, there was an initial outflow of $48.65 million. I mean, who’s counting, right? 🙃
According to ZachXBT, the hackers used two “vanity addresses.” You know, just to add a little flair while they were robbing the place. Classy! 🎩
One of these addresses was responsible for taking off with $49 million. Seriously, it’s like they were trying to make a statement. The name? Oh, just a little something like,
“TKFuckiRGCTerroristsNoBiTEXy2r7mNX.”
And the second one? Well, it was named,
“0xffFFfFFffFFffFfFffFFfFfFfFFFFfFfFFFFDead.”
Real creative, huh? I mean, who needs a normal name when you can have that? 😂
What Did Nobitex Do? Spoiler: Not Much!
Nobitex finally admitted that their technical team found a security breach. Shocking, I know! It mostly involved hot wallets. Because, of course, who would think to secure those? 🙈
In a bold move, they suspended the compromised wallets. Wow, what a revelation! 🙌
While they’re still figuring out the mess, Nobitex claims,
“Users’ assets are completely secure according to cold storage standards.”
Right, because that’s what everyone wants to hear after losing $81 million. 🙄
They also said,
“All damages will be compensated through the insurance fund and Nobitex resources.”
Oh, great! So, we’re just going to pretend this didn’t happen? Fantastic! 🙃
After the breach, Nobitex took their website and app offline. Because nothing says “we’re on top of this” like going dark! 🕵️♂️
Community in an Uproar
But wait, the crypto community is not having it! They’re mocking Nobitex for their lack of caution. Shocking, I know! 😏
X (formerly Twitter) user ASHKHAN_NZ chimed in,
“This is what happens when 4 idiots take over the technical team.”
And leilalo added,
“If our money is not returned, you all should be tried in the next government.”
Now, it gets even juicier! The Nobitex hack took a political turn when a pro-Israel group called “Gonjeshke Darande” claimed they were behind it. Because why not? 🙄
In a post on X, they not only admitted to the hack but also threatened to leak the exchange’s source code. Because, you know, they’re just that generous! 😏
This whole incident is just another reminder of how wild this year has been for crypto, with over 18 high-profile hacks. What a time to be alive! 🙃
And Bitcoin [BTC]? It briefly surged to $108K amid all this drama but then retreated to $105K. Because, of course, it did! 😅
