Just Cause Developer Working on Live-Service Multiplayer Game

Avalanche Studios, known for the Just Cause games, is reportedly developing a new online multiplayer game using Unreal Engine 5. Recent job postings at the studio, including a Gameplay Systems Programmer position, suggest the game will feature large-scale multiplayer environments.

Avalanche Studios is hiring for a new multiplayer online game. Job postings on their LinkedIn page indicate they’re looking for skilled developers, including a Technical Director who will be in charge of the game’s technical design, future development plans, and ensuring the team has the necessary resources to create what they describe as an innovative experience.

Meanwhile, the description for the Gameplay Systems Programmer states:

We’re looking for a skilled Gameplay Systems Programmer to join us in Stockholm. You’ll be a key player in preparing our game’s features and content for large online multiplayer experiences and helping our designers polish the gameplay. You’ll build the core systems that control everything from how weapons work and missions unfold, to complex AI and how players act – essentially, you’ll have a direct impact on every aspect of the game.

We don’t know much about this mysterious project beyond the fact that it involves large-scale multiplayer gameplay. Some speculate it’s a completely new game, while others think it might be a multiplayer version connected to the Just Cause series.

Fans hoping for another single-player Just Cause game are likely to be disappointed. Avalanche Studios announced in November 2025 that they don’t believe Just Cause 5 will ever be made. This news came after reports that the game had actually begun development, but was later cancelled.

Avalanche Studios had started developing an open-world Iron Man game, but it was canceled in 2022. The studio has faced challenges recently, and many believe focusing on a multiplayer, live-service game isn’t the best strategy, given how unpredictable that type of game market currently is.
